I just bought this Pioneer Package from Bestbuy. It came with (2) 12" 600 Watt Subs, an 800 Watt Mono Channel Amp, and a box. But what I just realized was that the AMP was a mono channel. Does that mean I cant power both of the subs at the same time. If thats the case thats just frekaing stupid. Why wuold they even try to sell this if it was a mono channel AMP and if it cant power 2 speakers and the same time. Could someone please help me out and answer that question for me I would greatly appreciate it. And if the case is that you can power the 2 with the 1 channel AMP I am sorry for Ranting about it. But what I think is that you can't but I'm not possotive about that, thats just my point of view...from a newbie in car audio

Cliff Notes
- bought a (2) sub package from bestbuy today
- came with a mono channel amp
- I'm wondering if i can power 2 subs with the mono channel amp at the same time.
- I personally thing from my point of view that I cant, but I don't know much about car audio

a mono amp just means it's designed for powering subwoofers. you don't need stereo sound for subs. your ears wouldn't be able to tell the difference. they wire both of the subs to the mono channel. this basically doubles the power output since it lowers the resistance.

Holy cow, my thread was locked. Yours might be next. 2 bumps in 15 minutes?

No, you power them in series/parallel; which one depends on the impedance of your kit

Just put both positive wires from the subs on the positive amp connection..and both negatives on the negative. See if it works.

Yes it will work but will it get the 250RMS watts to both of the speakers or will only 125 watts go to each speaker?

well it depends on the amp. I can't tell without knowing the specs of the amp and the specs of the subs. if they are 4 ohm subs they would be wired in parallel putting a 2ohm load on the amp. you would need to see what the amp's power output is at 2ohm.

Impedance!

In fact, give me exact model numbers or all the specs you have, and I will tell you exactly which wires to connect, how much power each will see, etc.

Amps specs are:
500 Watts at 4ohms or
800 Watts at 2 ohms

The speakers specs are

150 Watts of continuous power handling and thats at 4 ohms

Heres the link to the actual speakers
Speakers

And heres the link to the actual Amp

Thank you so much, in my electronics class this is 1 thing I did not understand Impendance.

Wire them like this, 2 single voice coil subs in parallel. Either run seperate speaker wires from each amp terminal to the correct terminals on both subs, or run jumpers from one subs terminals to the identical terminal on the second sub. Your amp will see a 2 ohm load, and produce 360w RMS. Each sub will receive half of this power, or 180w RMS.

So basically your saying, go from the amps + connection to both of the subs + connection and then same with the -

if thats the case how many watts will each speaker get.

That amp is only 360 watts at 2 ohms...so each sub will get 180. Dont be fooled by the max watts...u want to look at the rms on the amps.

If you want the greatest, you're looking in the wrong place.

Looks like someone already explained how to wire it

Wiring the two speakers in parallel will produce a combined impedance of 2 ohms, so you're looking at the 360 watts RMS total...180 each

Bestbuy doesnt sell the greatest stuff. Check out sounddomain or carmedia1. Not even sure if carmedia1 is still around. I bought a Cadence 600 watt class d amp for around 300 a while back.

each sub will be getting 180w rms. the amp is providing more than enough power.

It's not the greatest, but it'll do what you want it to...360 watts to two 12's is more than enough for any normal listening.

If you want to get more serious, return it, and I'll point you toward some online-only brands that are worth a look (and cost less)

$250 for 2 subs and an amp?!?!?! you're gonna have to save up a lot more money than that if you want a nice system. you can spend $250 on an amp alone.

You might be better off with a good 10 or 12" speaker and a solid amp, rather than two 12s..imo, anyway. Do you want clean sound or just volume?
