back in the days people used simple audio tapes to store data. They actually hold a lot for what they are. VHS tapes were used at on e point for data, and they probably hold in the gigabytes range for a T120 tape. Moving data around the world without media is done all the time. Satillite communications easily move that much. Your typical radio broadcast that much or more in a day.

Place these atoms in a box with the data encoded. Then fire the box out of a railgun. exorbitantly expensive and pointless but problem solved.

Last time I checked, removable hard drives = ~$20 + a regular IDE internal hard drive.... I agree with the others in saying "WHY would these options not work?"

I'd use a archiving program like Power Archiver, Compress and split the ten gigs into 700MB parts, burn them to a cd, and send the cds, Cdrs are what, $20 for 50 right? so this would be fairly cheap, and every computer that can hold ten gigs should have a cd drive.

u'd need to have some kinda way to make sure that one disc doesn't ruin the batch though. par files? that just ups tnhe cd count though.

For $5 worth of Ramen noodles, you can hire a chinese guy to memorize the sequence of bits you need stored and relay it to the destination.

Tell him how much data can fit "in this d1ck".

And yes....I know someone is going to say 1.44mb or something along the lines.

Good day sir.

Portable media out of the question?
Long-a$$ wiring out of the question?
Data transfer through web...etc?
How about an internal HD reconnected to destination?
How about everything written down to the wire on paper?
How about you tell that mofo you quit!?

Well, if one is going to move 10G of data all the way around the world, it will wind up where it started from. It has already moved in that case...

You guys are missing the obvious:

Semaphore.

Your arms may get tired, though.

this "riddle" would be cooler if it was explained why dvd or tape is not an option.

Not quite sure why I seemed to offend some people with this?! If you don't care for a question (and I didn't say you had to either read or answer it) then just leave it be!

Thanks for some of the valuable input from most of the posters. You just assured me that there is no simple solution and more planing (ie DVD seems to be the best solution, although painful in some circumstances).

Thanks

i guess i don't see how tape or dvd or hard drives are *not* simple solutions... how much simpler can you get?

A portable HD is like $150 for 120 GB....this is too much why, again? It doesn't make sense at all. A tape drive costs a ton, in the range of several hundred dollars. Tapes are cheap, yes. Setting up a tape drive isn't exactly plug-and-play though.
