OMG!!
There's only one good thing I can get out of this horrible news.
In a few years I'll be able to catch you Robor!! LOL!!
I had to think of something positive from such a devistating, disturbing, shocking, upsetting, demoralizing, distressing news.
I'm glad I'm the HMFIC because SETI is here to stay! :|
[evil laugh]
If I hire anyone, his rights to disable SETI will be removed! [/evil laugh]
In all seriousness though, that's too bad that "Tech" didn't take the courtesy of asking you first when you returned off of vaction instead of dropping the dime. Burning that bridge of trust and respect is hard to get back, if at all!
Just like the many years I've dedictated to our military, I keep preaching to everyone else I know. Use your chain of command and solve your problems at the lowest level. If your going to go over someone's head (because you have to, or because your a "tattle-tale") at least give the other person the courtesy of being informed. Something as simple as, "I have a issue I need to discuss with the Director. I feel it's in my best interest to bring it to <him/her>, but I wanted to let you know first because I respect your position."
If he was a "knowledgeable" tech he could of at least disabled the client to see if was in fact SETI causing the problem and then ask you later,
"By the way, I noticed the CPU at 100%. I disabled it and it didn't solve the problem, but why is a program taking that much CPU?" Maybe then he would understand the great advantage of Distributed Computing and feel better about himself since he engaged his brain before his mouth. But since he did the opposite of the latter, he's the real looser.
