so my friend works at best buy.... I saw the 120mm Dynex fan for $16.49. more info here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...&cp=1&id=1186004520415

ridiculous price isn't it?! through the employee discount I was able to get it for $3.50. yes, $3.50!!

my expectations were very low, but upon installing the fan, I was pleasantly surprised at how much air it can push (73fm) at a decent noise level (38dba). this is probably nothing if you compare it with other 120mm fans, especially if you consider the retail price, but for the employee discount of $3.50, I think it's pretty damn good.

the main reason I bought it fan was to do the 7v mod on it, so starting dBA wasn't a big deal for me. so I did the 7volt mod, and now it's barely audible and pushes quite a decent amount of air. all for just $3.50!

the verdict is, if you can get this through a friend or if you are a Best Buy employee, go for it. if not, forget it... get one from Newegg for under $10 including shipping. hell if it is possible get two and do voltage mods on both of them and you have one quiet case that'll push just as much air as one 120mm and full speed

I'm gonna get me another one tomorrow

Almost no one here would consider buying store brand fans unless we knew with certainty the quality of the fan in the box (who actually made the fan and what model it is). Who knows, it may be dandy - we'll let you catch the arrows and report back...

If you could provide us with a clear pic of the fan, some makes are obvious. If it's the one on their web site, not many buyers are thrilled with it. Probably not aware that it is 70+ CFM and needs to be cranked back on some kind of controller a bit for normal use.

my friend is a bestbuy employee and will be able to get the fan for really really cheap (she got a $60 dynex product for $13). I'll ask her to get me the 120mm on and the 80mm one and I'll post pics and review them...

also, I really don't care about the noise it'll make because I'll roll it back to 7v or 5v.

Well, if yate loons are $3.50 at jab-tech and others I don't think I'd go through the hassle of tracking down a Best Buy employee and befriending them. Thanks for the info... it'll help some who need a fan right away and know Best Buy employees.

I have a big problem with re-branded fans that give no indication of the true maker. Perhaps you got lucky with that particular example. But buy an 80mm fan with the same name and it might be a totally different brand under the Dynex label.

Then there's the specs.....how can you be certain? You buy a Scythe fan and you can find info, reviews, specs, everywhere, for instance......you pretty much know what you're getting. Hiding an unknown fan behind a strange label, certainly doesn't give me much incentive to buy the thing. It's like what is so wrong with the fan that it's true identity has to be disguised?

Rebrands are weird. At times, I've seen "Mad Dog" branded stuff that I could swear was the exact same thing as a Pricier Zalman or Thermaltake or something and then next to it on the shelf was the most cheaply made looking junk I've ever seen -- also with the "Mad Dog" logo.

Like ChefJoe said, $3.50 isn't that good... Yate Loons cost $3.50 per, and are probably better than your Best Buy fans.

I don't mind Dynex PSUs for the price i can score them for...they're very quiet, though quality is obviously suspect.
