Yeah they should have shown the spear glistening with a liquid and a drop on the ground giving off a sizzling sound.
That or just stuck a HazMat poison sticker on it, and some in another thread still wouldn't figure it out.

Shea is still alive, go figure.

One of the saddest part about life is you can try to tell someone something, but it's impossible to raise their IQ level.

It's a no win situation most of the time.

I wasn't being sarcastic. You read the books so its easy to see it.
If the screen writers wanted to make it obvious, they wouldn't have spent only a second on an unremarkable spear polishing shot. They would've shown smoky emanations from the tip of the spear instead or fluid dripping from it.

It wasn't aimed at you intentionally, sorry.

well I said it so it was I guess.

Just when the season started I caught a lot of crap over nothing and got ran off the other thread and my GOT attitude on the forum a bit skewed.

Just to be clear for the others who jumped onto this thread a little later.. you didn't catch crap over 'nothing'. You and some others acted in a juvenile way by disclosing spoilers and got booted. And you seem to take many opportunities to cry about your perceive injustice on this thread and it should stop.

Bullshit.

Still a bit touchy over that one.

Was wondering that myself, looks not.

Getting ready to watch round 2, can't complain about a lack of combat in this one, that's for sure.

I thought they might kill off Grenn in place of Donal Noye, but I didn't expect Pype to die. I thouhgt Pyp was going to take Dareon's place since Pyp was a singer in the show.

makes sense that they kill off a bunch of Jon's biggest friends/supporters, it'll be a bit more believable when he's Caesared, although not as tragic

I think the show did a much better job with the battle than GRRM did, I was pretty much never concerned that the Nights Watch might actually lose while reading the book. I also really like what they did with Alliser Thorne's character in the show, far more gray now than the black and white depiction of him in the book.

To be fair he earned getting killed because he was breaking his vows, even though he did piss off a ton of others from his other activities but it was in the interest of the watch, to reclaim him homeland.

I actually didn't like what they did with ser alliser. I'm so used to hating him.

I would disagree quite a bit. The book depiction was that of a hundred thousand warriors attacking the Wall, along with lots of giants and other creatures. The Watch was falling rapidly and was hard-pressed to make it through the night.

The show depiction was of a couple of dozen warriors attacking the wall along with 2 or three giants. The Watch suffered a few losses but wasn't doing too bad. So long as the wildlings south of the wall were dispatched, Mance's army never stood a chance of breaking through.

Also, I'm guessing that we see nothing of the Wall in s04e10. I bet the Stannis attack doesn't happen until e01 or e02 of s05.

Yeah, I thought the Watch seemed a lot more desperate in the books. Essentially everyone was injured in some way, there were fewer men, had to use dummies to fool their numbers, etc...

I can't say I love all the changes from the books (throughout the whole season), but I liked the episode in any case.

I believe the preview for episode 10 showed some cavalry running through in battle, so I'm guessing that's Stannis's troops. But there seems to be very little time to setup Jon to be selected as Lord Commander, along with wrapping up other events, so maybe that's not happening until season 5.

I thought they didn't set him up as commander until after Stannis arrived. He is ordered to parley with Mance (in hopes he never returns) and Stannis shows up to save the day. He is then elected Lord Commander after deciding to not be legitimized by Stannis and be Lord of Winterfel.
