I thought they didn't set him up as commander until after Stannis arrived. He is ordered to parley with Mance (in hopes he never returns) and Stannis shows up to save the day. He is then elected Lord Commander after deciding to not be legitimized by Stannis and be Lord of Winterfel.

All correct. So I'm thinking 60 or whatever minutes is going to be hard pressed to fit in:
- Jon converses with Mance
- Stannis arrives and wrecks the wildlings
- Jon converses with Stannis*
- Jon is elected lord commander

* My guess is they'll just cut out Stannis's offer to Jon entirely.

PLUS

- Tyrion kills Tywin and escapes
- Hound "dies" and Arya leaves for Braavos
- Bran reaches Children of the Forest
- Whatever from Daenerys...Drogon eats the child?
- Lady Stoneheart? (doubtful)

I think Jon's done for the season. Stannis might arrrive, but that is it.
The episode will focus on Tyrion killing Shae and Tywin and escaping. They will throw in Bran reaching the children of the forest and an appearance by Lady Stoneheart (who Headey confirmed in her Instagram spoiler pic, as usual). Dany will have 10 minutes of garbage, as usual.

The will end the season with Arya leaving for Braavos. She will give the coin and say the words, fade to black.

Still might happen, was he actually voted Lord Commander? And I seem to remember him being in the open field when Stannis did show up.

He might be more or less in absentia atm.

My bookishness failing me a little.

I believe someone from the NW was.

Have to watch it again.

What he said.

Yeah I think the last one going to be 75 minutes from what I'd read somewhere.

The finale is also scheduled to be longer than normal. Scheduled from 9 to 1015 EST.

If I remember correctly, Sam had an election of sorts and kind of did some trickery to make Jon win. I don't remember the exact details though. But, that was only after Stannis showed up and offered Jon legitimacy. He was going to take him up on the offer when Ghost returns and he decides not to. Before he can even tell Stannis though, he is elected Lord Commander. Clearly, that turns out well for him. =)

I actually didn't like what they did with ser alliser. I'm so used to hating him.
Was a nice touch I'd say.

He's doing his job.

I feel about the same, but that's obviously part of the set ups also.

Jon was talking with Mance when Stannis showed up. I remember thinking at first that Alliser and Janos had decided to attack, trying to get Mance to think that Jon set him up and resulting in Jon's execution by Mance.

The end result was Jon making sure that Mance's son and sister survived the attach by Stannis.

I think they will either leave Jon as he is and possibly have Stannis only show up at the wall (or maybe even actually leave for it...) or only show him with Mance when Stannis (unknown to the viewer) being spotted and Mance saying something like "an ambush! You're dead crow!" or something like that. There is just too much resolution for a season finale in the rest of the Wall's story. And, since Jon is dead (maybe, who knows) after the next few seasons, might as well cram as much into it as possible.

I still think the very end will be Arya heading to Braavos. I really hope next season is full of Arya, but that is because I love her storyline.

Tyrion still has to escape and tie up some loose ends (mostly ones squatting over a chamber pot).

I'm predicting the finale is going to be all over the place and a ton of things.

Just from the title all the kids will be doing things I imagine.

There could be much mind boggling, the way things have been set up.

Re watching it on the big screen much better, I usually initially watch it on the bedroom 37 the first time.

Yeah, might be on a few times in here tonight.

A guess: The episode title refers directly to the children of the forest. Bran's storyline is about his struggle to find them with the help of Coldhands. Yet Coldhands seems to have been written out of the show and Bran "knows where he is going." The season 5 casting has led some to speculate that young Cersei will have her encounters with Maggy the Frog next year, and that the way to accomplish that is through Bran's tree-seeing.

So, Bran gets to the tree, the dragon eats a kid, Tyrion escapes, Brienne meets Stoneheart, Arya sails for Braavos.

Although the episode has been reported as being 66 minutes long.

So I guess the conclusions for the characters are:
Bran: Meets the children of the forest.
The wall: Stannis attacks the wildlings and drives them off.
The North: We are already done with Theon and the Boltons?
Arya: Hound gets wounded and Arya leaves him and sails for Braavos.
Sansa: Already done for the season?
Brienne: It seems too soon for her to meet Lady Stoneheart.
Lady Stoneheart: Kills some Freys?
King's Landing: Jaime rescues Tyrion. Tyrion kills Tywin and Shae, and sets sail.
Dany: Daario defeated. Drogo eats little boy?
Balon: Isn't it time they killed him off?
Yara: Already done for the season.

Varys going across the sea with Tyrion.

makes me think the entire
Aegon story line may be gone. I really wanted to see Kevan walking into Pycelle's study to find him dead then is shot with a crossbow bolt by Varys who apologizes to Kevan (Tywin's brother who was in season 1 for a scene or two). "Sorry, Kevan but you're doing to good a job of keeping the kingdom intact... I'm truly sorry it has to be this way." Then we see Varys' little birds moving in for the kill. A season or two down the line of course.

I wonder if Tyrion still meets up with the other disowned protagonist across the narrow sea though.

Also the way Melisandre was looking at Jon Snow through the flames of the funeral pyre makes me wonder exactly what how much she saw her flames of future visions that she didn't tell Stannis.

Feeling sorry for the unsullied... they really don't know.
