I came across this youtube video series a few hours ago starting with part one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMgUIPvAlLI

Thanks, interesting find. Assuming he is right on everything, the world is in for surprises.

From one of the later parts: "metaphoric prophecies can't be falsified". I never thought of it, but probably. How does this guy enjoy any story at all though, refusing to be immersed in the mythics at all?

Yeah, we're all different, and can enjoy the same content from different perspectives and live happily. Just a thought on how very different this guy is from me. But good work by him on that series, absolutely.

Careful with this one, WOTW material in the show:

MAJOR SPOILERS:

Sources report that today Game of Thrones is filming portions of a massive battle in Saintfield, Northern Ireland, that will likely be a part of episode nine. Preparations and the beginning of filming were seen in that area recently, but it was difficult to glean many details. We’ve learned that the battle will involve many northern armies fighting including the Umbers, the Boltons, wildlings and more! The true major spoiler is this: Kit Harington a.k.a Jon Snow was also seen at the location, participating in shooting this week. Harington has been spotted in Belfast again recently, along with Iwan Rheon, so it’s not too shocking Harington is filming Game of Thrones. Looks like Game of Thrones is planning another huge battle for the ever-important episode nine. I won’t call it the biggest one of all yet, not unless dragons show up. Have not heard anything about dragons showing up, alas.

Seems too early for the dragons. When last we left Dany had a lot of things to do before she could get the dragons under control and get to Westeros. If the battle is northmen, wildings and Nights Watch it's probably the forces of humanity fighting against the White Walkers and the army of the undead.

Or, the armies of Northmen fighting each other like the idiots they are. I imagine Dany will find out how to control her dragons while under threat of Dothraki rape / murder. Possible warging? We still don't know how the dragon riders did it. It could have been a bond formed from tiny dragon to adulthood with a rider or it could have been simply a handler breaking them like wild broncos or something more magical like warging. I think it will be interesting to see. Honestly, I think the show has a much more interesting storyline in Tyrion leading the city than the idiot husband.

Controlling the dragons will be 2 birds with one stone. The Dothraki follow the strongest, if Dany gains control of the dragons while their captive she becomes the biggest badass around and they follow her. Thus she has both her dragons and her army. But that's not going to get solved soon. Hell, maybe the dragons are just uncontrollable at that age like headstrong teenagers. She had a little control over them when younger, maybe that builds as they mature.

No idea whatsoever if things will play out this way, but I see Dany and the dragons saving Westeros, not conquering it. The idiot petty kings can't get their crap together over there and never unite against the common enemy until it's too late and the WW/zombies are about to wipe them out. Then Dany shows up and the dregs of Westeros led by Jon rally to Dany and join forces to beat the undeads once and for all. Then Jon weds Dany and they all live happily ever after until next winter.

Or, seeing as it's GRRM, the White Walkers win and they go on to rule the whole planet while riding the killed and now undead dragons. Given how most of the humans behave maybe the White Walkers are really the good guys and under their leadership the whole wold will be peaceful and prosperous.

I think Jon and Dany would be the most likely to bring together Westeros. Jon has been shit on enough by the nobles to understand they just fuck shit up anyway and Dany will have a way to beat the real threat nobody but the Night's Watch cares about. I think Jon will be the hero of light and Dany will be his sword. Maybe, in a twist, he kills her to forge the blade and then defeats the white talkers who have taken over the dragons! And, Bran loses all his leaves because he's a tree.

Donald Trump shows up and takes control of all the Dragons and chains them to a Casino Tower.

Hey, it could happen

I don't think that everything in the videos is going to be in the GoT books much less the show but the thing about a certain character's storyline isn't impossible and may even be probable given the nature of things not really being as they appear in other story lines.

don't mouse over unless you've seen the videos I linked to in post #999 (oh look :sneaky: if you rotate it 180 degrees....)
The author was asked about the ASoIaF books being part of a larger Universe and he has said no as I recall.
Can't find the link atm.

I don't doubt that G.R.R. Martin may be exploring themes in this series that he has explored before especially since he has reused names from a previous work containing "psychic powers" for prominent characters in ASoIaF.

But yeah... there maybe that one in a million chance G.R.R. Martin is going to shock a lot of people. Granted I would be quite shocked too.

This is pretty cool. Game of Thrones broke a record previously held by The West Wing for most Emmy's won in the same year.

http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-34311316

Game of Thrones picked up a record-breaking 12 awards, including best drama series at this year's Emmys in Los Angeles.

http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/game-of-thrones-emmy-wins-record-1201598356/
The series dethroned previous record holder, NBC’s “The West Wing,” which won nine Emmy awards in its first season. “Game of Thrones” now ties with “West Wing” and “Hill Street Blues” for the drama with the most wins over the course of its run — and the HBO show will undoubtedly surpass that record before it eventually ends.

I think some credit goes to G.R.R. Martin for having such fantastic source material and being very particular about who would be allowed to adapt his work.

In interviews the show runners indicated that G.R.R. Martin asked them a question, over dinner, about a character's heritage as if it was a make or break test question for being allowed to adapt the show. They gave their answer and Mr. Martin seemed satisfied

Looks like G.R.R. Martin chose well, based on this new record.

Why do people use spoiler tags in a thread which has "HERE BE SPOILERS" in the title? :hmm:

Well, I'm not sure the speculative videos I provided links for recently are actually spoilers or not. They could be or they might not be depending on how right they are....

I'd be surprised if they were more than 25% right but even that would be rather spoilerery in regards to a certain characters PoV even for some book readers I think.

If they were more than 50-75% right which I really doubt; well that could be a mind-fuck on the level of Kaiser Soze.

*e2a*

Also if we got a visit from the OT drama-queen again we might all get banned from this thread :sneaky:

Good point. I tagged mine since 2 major plot points are revealed. One was expected, the other highlights the arc for the season 6 story of North. Despite the disclaimer in the title, some might walk in here and see more than they bargained for.

Wild speculation I feel compelled to blurt out: Some time after Daenerys comes back to Mereen (at the helm of the Dothraki army) Tyrion tells her about his time at the wall and casually mentions meeting Aemon Targaryen, she is prompted to fly to the wall where she meets another Targaryen that Tyrion has already met and that Targaryen proves useful in dragon training.
GRRM contrasts Cercei/Jaime with Jon/Sansa. Daenerys either dies or yields the throne (after conquering it) to Jon and his bride.

I believe that after Jon is revealed to be the Kwisatz Had... um Azor Ahai he conquers all with his Sandw... I mean dragons and takes Dany as his bride and a zombie white-walkerized Mycella Lannister as his consort.

Remembering that at least 100 weeks of offseason are coming and even longer for the remaining books...

So ironic that early in the 24 run I finally decided not to start watching shows that haven't finished airing. All these years I followed that rule and then I make an exception for GOT...

What I was referring to earlier:

Wait, what? AFAIK season 6 is slated to begin in spring 2016, they've been filming for over a month already and should wrap in late October. Is there supposed to be a 2 year hiatus after that?

As for the remaining books, those might not happen in my lifetime. For sure not in GRRMs lifetime.

There are (at least) 3 seasons left, I just counted the remaining weeks of offseason combined. The ~100 remaining weeks of offseason will be broken up by 30 weeks of the show airing. I almost wish they stretched the footage into 20 half hour episodes. Show has always premiered a season in 1st half of April and D&D have repeatedly dismissed doing more episodes as logistically impossible.

Is Jon snow "dead" because he finds out about his lineage and goes by Jon Stark or Jon Targaryen instead, perhaps?
