So Friday evening we set out to obtain dinner, driving the Honda Fit. As we pulled away from the curb it became quite clear something was wrong as the car made very bad, very expensive sounding noises, like sheet metal tearing. So we parked the car and took the truck for the evening. On Saturday it rained all day (1.8" YEA!) so I didn't investigate the car further. Today morned cool and clear so I decided to figure out if I could determine the cause of the bad noises. The noises only came when the car was moving so I decided that I would have to put the front of the car on jack stands to listen while it was in gear. A Fit is one of those crappy little cars with no frame so to jack it up one has to place the jack under the car where the reinforced jack points are located. It is somewhat difficult to fit the jack and the jack stand under the reinforced area but not impossible. The scissors jack provided by Honda sucks (a jack too crappy to lift a Fit ) so I used the bottle jack out of the truck. I accomplished the task for the passenger side and proceeded with the driver side. As I brought the jack down while holding the jack stand something went bad, real bad. The jack stand ended up bearing the weight of the car (good) with the ring finger of my right hand pinned under the stand (bad) lengthwise. I want pause here to mention that some folks view their traumatic injuries as super cool, a high point of living to marvel upon. I am not one of those people. I did two things simultaneously. The first was to yell quite loudly for my wife. The second was to see if I could reposition and raise the jack with one hand. The second failed while the first worked so my wife jacked up the car, freeing my hand. Then it was off to the urgent care place. The results so far are a couple good tears of the skin, the tip of the finger tip bone is crushed, and I lost the nail. I should also mention that it hurts and I still don't know what is wrong with the car.
