Not really where I was going with the comment. I think it's just because it all looks so 'fake' almost like a movie set. When the difference is just a stuck in time reality. Wallpaper, all the dust, etc. makes it feel off.

I wonder what went through that guy's mind when he first walked in there. (Hopefully not, "I'm sure they won't miss that!".)

The portrait is that of her grandmother, Marthe de Florian (born Mathilde Héloïse Beaugiron on September 9th 1864 in the 18th arrondissement in Paris), a French actress who reportedly was the lover of painter Giovanni Boldini, of one of the Prime Ministers of France, and of several other high-society men. Seems it was painted circa 1898.
