A very serious thread about Classic WoW

I tried WoW but couldn't get into it as much as Anarchy Online. I wasn't going to pay/play two different MMO so I stayed with Anarchy. Anarchy had very unique itemization that I enjoyed and haven't really seen in any other game. Items for the most part did not have level requirements which meant there was an entire sub game devoted to the manipulation of items/stats to equip items and cast buffs. They also didn't do the whole no drop thing until later and deeper into the expansions.

Ironically, I really enjoyed UO before Age of Shadow expansion which heavily introduced items with stats. It was nice not having a gear check playing PVP. It was just your skills as a player as everyone else had the exact same stuff as you for the most part.

So what exactly is going back to vanilla? What is everyone so excited about exactly?

I played all the way up to MoP.

Classic WoW where I couldn't craft anything without parts from 4 other crafters? The game I played at release, leveled up to 60 and got bored with nothing left to do and stopped playing? Not sure what the nostalgia for it is about, despite it's flaws the current game has a ton of content for a lot of different play styles.

i think people are going to play classic for two weeks, realize that the fantasy romance they had with it when it first came out isn't there anymore, because its all old. a few hardcore raiders will hang around, but everyone will go back to retail.
i played in 2005 and it was amazing because it was all new. now, it's just going to be a grind, and people aren't the same socially.

however, have fun reliving it.

Played Vanilla have no desire to go back to the systems were 3 classes had tanky specs but really only one was viable. (Well 4 forgot about shamans using a mace and board and rockbiter)

Or that in raiding meant you had one spec to play at the end and if you didn't choose the right class at the start you'd be locked into a role you didn't plan for.

The systems got better as the community went downhill.

I prefer to have choices when I play a character. To either dps or tank in dungeons and in the open world tank up if having to kill an elite mob alone.

Classic WoW will appeal to some who actually played Vanilla and those who do enjoy rogue-like dungeon games were the difficulty is higher than usual. But there will still be more people playing retail even if Classic has a healthy population.

I used to have 2 accounts for SWG. I made the 2nd account a squad leader to give me buffs. Infinite sprint, anti knockdown, anti poison, and anti dizzy. I was virtually indestructible and pwned Jedi with ease. I even had one of the most powerful guilds chase me around Theed for 45 minutes. Every time they chased me with vehicles, i would destroy them. I was on their teamspeak, and could hear them cussing, who the fuck is this guy...and barking orders to each other. They eventually gave up. Lol

Ahhh that was an epic day. Epic game.

This may be lame but fuck it. I paid for three accounts and at one point had five (guild mate that had two accounts prepaid for a year gave them to me when he quit.)

I loved that you could do almost anything solo. No inviting idiots to groups because they were the right spec.

As for vanilla wow... I think you probably don’t remember how tedious it was. TBC was a better balance, raids could be done in a somewhat reasonable amount of time and more specs were viable.

I can’t see going back to MMO as I am also all or nothing, if I can’t be part of the top tier stuff there’s no real point.

Agree. Go back and play Metroid on NES, Mega Man, etc. Fun for 10 minutes, then you realize it's just nostalgia and the gameplay & limitations suck in comparison. Once you go modern, you don't go back.
