A Warning Concerning Newegg & Fedex

I recently ordered an Abit MB, Duron and cooler from Newegg. Great prices, speedy order processing and delivery.

The problem came with the arrangement they have with Fedex. They DO NOT require a signature for receipt of packages. As a result Fedex LEAVES THEM AT YOUR DOOR!

Being away for the week on a consulting assignment my MB, CPU and fan were left on my door for 3 days. Besides raining heavily for 2 of the 3 days, any number of people (I live in a high traffic area) could have picked up my items.

End result, no MB, no CPU and no Fan. Some happy person is enjoying these items and I'm out $200 bucks.

Since I cannot call LD from work, and Neweggs hours coincide with mine I probably just bought a $200 lesson.

If you purchased the item with CityBank or AMEX credit card, you are fully insured.
Just call your credit card company and see what they say. Good luck.

No dice, I do not own cards with these banks.

Well I don't think this true. Someone had to sign for them. With Express saver which Newegg uses, a signature is required. So this thread should be locked.

Bummer, have you tried emailing them? Do we know for sure it's Newegg's fault and not Fedex or the Fedex driver? It's a good thing I can have things delivered to my work address.

Nope. No dice. Newegg has signed an agreement with Fedex saying they DO NOT require signature delivery. This waives Fedex's liability. That's why this is a warning.

Actually, you should not be out ANY money. The contract between Newegg and you is that you supply consideration (read: Money), and they provide a good or service. It is their responsibility to fulfill their part of the agreement, ie get the goods to you. Not to your neighbor, not to your car, but in your hands.

Call newegg and let them know you never received the items, they'll have to go sort it out with Fedex as to who's gonna eat the cost.

Of course, keep in mind that Fedex will put you on their 'no leave' list -- from that point on, they will never leave an item for you without a signature from you, regardless of what the shipper states.

Personally as I live in a large apt complex in the heart of the city I have no problem with this. Somehow though I have the gut feeling that this is a $200 lesson I just paid for.

Here's a link to what the tracking page looks like, note the text concerning the signature in the comments.

No, its not a 200 dollar lesson. Go and talk to new egg , they will refund your cost. Stop putting down everyone's ideas and actually try them. you will get it back.

time for a lock now.

The real question is, why would you order $200 worth of parts right before you were leaving town (or while you were out of town) for a week?

Putting down everyone's idea? Just relating what has been told to me by Fedex.

Calm down, it's information for anyone else in this situation.

Because good consultants don't ask for work, it asks for them.

They gotta be all insured, no matter what credit card you used. Just call your CC company and explain to them you've never received the shipment. That's all. Do not BS. Then you can dispute the charge.

I had the same experience with uBid. I won an auction on a Maxtor 80G HD. The Fedex just dropped the shipment in front of my house and did not even ring the doorbell for my signature so I didn't know the shipment had ever arrived. As a result, someone else took it away. Then I called my CC company and they sent me a form to fill in. Two days later my credit card was credited back for the price of the HD. No hassle.

I had a similar problem before with UPS. Called them up and everything was taken care of. It was actually a small package worth less than $50.

From what I know, when the item is more than $100, most carriers are required to obtain a signature. If there's a waiver for the signature then whoever waived that requirement is reliable if the package gets damage or stolen.

This Has Got Nothing to do with a HOT DEAL. Plus Fedex rarely requires a signature if you do not specifically make sure with fedex that they require a signature.

If you live in a house, many of these delivery guys just leave it there. I know UPS's policy is they leave it at a house without signature (if one is not specified). So far UPS has been treating me good, all packages ok. If they every screw up my delieveries, I may just order something really expensive and pretend never to have recieved it. I personally think the policy of leaving it without a sig is horrible, but if they want to do it, they are taking the risk, not me.

Since you're obviously not too concerned about getting your money back, you deserve to be out $200.

It would take me one phone call to Newegg, then possibly one more to my CC company to get my goods or be refunded.

Can't call at work? Have you ever heard of a lunch break? Stop wasting our time by negating everyone's advice and upping your post count.

My boyfriend just ordered a motherboard from newegg and it came Fedex saver. We weren't home, so they left a hang tag on the door and left the package at the front office. *shrug* So no problem with us.
