Bottom line here is that the Repub party is surviving on pumping fear and hate into their members. This is their call for unity as a political party. It's not about providing their working class members (of whom provide the bulk of their voters) a better chance at improving their quality of lives through various federal programs because that's what the Democrats are always attempting to do for them while their own "conservative" leaders are always attempting to deny their own members these things.

No matter how ridiculous it sounds, the GOP leadership has convinced their rank and file that being gun toting racists, supremacists, isolationists, traditionalists and nationalists is a much better way to live their lives in lieu of acquiring affordable health care, affordable college tuition, well maintained infrastructure, etc. for themselves.

Crazy is as crazy does, and the only road they've paved for themselves goes down a hole that drives them crazier.

Now righties are being told to sympathize with the white nationalists. Republican racism on full display.
Tucker Carlson says it's "immoral" to criticize white supremacists (msn.com)

umm here is the quote. i do not see white anywhere. can you point it out?

“you can’t attack people, whole groups of people, on the basis of their race and ethnicity. Not in the media, especially, because of its reach. That’s completely irresponsible and immoral and ultimately can have very bad effects.”

He was referring to clips he played where people talked about white supremacy. So either he was dishonestly trying to reframe it to hate of white people generally (true) or he's not capable of understanding what he's listening to.

You've never met a single, solitary racist white person in your life?

LOL. If you're going to lie at least try to make your lies more credible. I have met many racist people in my life and they come in all shapes and sizes and colors. Most likely if you haven't found any white racists it's because they say things you agree with.

Couple of years ago I was in line behind a middle aged white male. When he bent his head down I could see a swastika tattoo on the back of his neck just below his collar.

I did not feel the need to confirm if he really was racist by asking him.

Yeah. Bear in mind I have lived in northern CA my entire life, mostly in the bay area, where racim is presumably low. And I've encountered at least a half dozen white people who are clearly and unambiguously racist. I know one person who I've spent maybe 30 hours of time in his presence in my life, and I've heard him use the n-word not less than 50 times. And every other racial slur you've ever heard.

Any white person who claims to have never met another white person who is racist is full of crap. And I've heard this claim from some people who live in southern states LOL.

Your name also fits you perfectly. In Hawaii during the late 1800's-early 1900's the pineapple and sugarcane plantations hired Japanese, Okinawan, Korean and Filipino field workers for which they hired white Portuguese managers that were called "LUNA" like you call yourself. These LUNAs were despised as slavers and also looked down upon as they were in general considered to be....let's just say "not so bright".

Besides, my "name" was created back in the late 90's when "tweaker" meant that a person was a 'puter enthusiast that liked to "tweak" 'puter settings for maximum speed and functionality without blowing anything up.

"Nuff 'splain'in for you.

Almost reminds me of my first job working on the final test line at Motorola in lovely Plantation, FL. They loved screaming Italian decent floor managers.

Just realized by "own the libs" they mean it literally. That's the end game. They want to be able to own people as property again.
If you look deep you will see that everything is about how to keep childhood traumatic events from surfacing to consciousness. It's all about keeping from feeling helpless and expressing rage at ones abusers. In this way one achieves the safety of being the abuser, releasing the pent up hate, and feeling the safety that being the master brings. People don't like re-experiencing what it means to feel psychic abuse. It's also what makes you so angry at what you believe is reality. I hope you can let go and have more inner peace. I know it's not easy.

DoJ is seeking the death penalty for Payton Gendron.

The article seems to be needling Biden over the fact that he campaigned on wanting to end capital punishment in the federal system. Is he being hypocritical?
In the absolute sense, yes.
In the "practical" sense - is there any doubt that this person conducted the shooting? No.

If I had to pick an exception, mass shootings where the identity of the shooter is unquestionably established, would be it.

But if we're going with a binary choice, then no, no death penalty, and Biden should have the DoJ seeking life without parole

The death penalty is TOO OFTEN used with circumstantial evidence against ordinary people who may or may not be guilty. Or may have been caught up on the wrong side of the law by circumstances not of their own making. Fate can be cruel and we have sentenced people to death who did not deserve it.

A mass shooter, OTOH, I feel is the explicit purpose behind the death penalty and he shouldn't have lasted a single year in custody.
We know with absolute certainty this is the guy. We know the hate he carries. The Buffalo shooter has lived too long as it is.

Nah, no death penalty.

Life without possibility of parole is a perfectly fine way to deal with any of these guys.

The object is to remove them from society so they cannot cause further harm, killing them is immaterial to the whole process and frankly doing so is completely unnecessary other than satisfying some primal bloodlust in the rest of us.

Two things:

First, this isn't Biden being hypocritical. He's not the one suggesting the death penalty, it's the career prosecutors with possible authorization from the district USA's office, maybe main justice. Chances that he had any input on this are zero, and likely very low it even went to main justice.

Second, I'm generally not in favor of the death penalty. The exception to that is in obvious cases where the crime is especially heinous (fits) and the charged individual is absolutely not in doubt (also fits). I say he should get to enjoy his chemically induced permanent nap.

I just want to add to this that the worst part about people believing the President is responsible for every govt decision and action is how it has given rise to autocratic sentiment.
I also disagree with this apparent attempt to deflect blame onto Biden for an atrocity committed by MAGA extremism.

If a POTUS wants to end the death penalty in federal prosecutions, he need not involve himself in individual decisions. I'm not assuming that Biden had anything to do with the decision per se. In fact, I'm sure he didn't. It's a little confusing, as the first article I read said that there was a moratorium on actually executing people, but it was ambiguous who placed the moratorium. I had thought that DoJ would have had to seek an exception from the White House, but now I'm reading that the moratorium was from DoJ itself. And it appears to apply only to actually executing people, not to imposing the sentence.

Biden had campaigned on "working towards" ending the death penalty. While no one has been executed under Biden, DoJ has sought to uphold previously imposed death penalties, and now they are attempting to impose a new one. So I guess Biden never issued an executive order imposing such a moratorium. Which is well within the power of the White House to do, and can be done without involving the White House in individual prosecutorial decisions. But he hasn't done it. I think the criticism is he campaigned on it, but hasn't really done anything to further the goal.
