A wife cheats on her husband

So I was talking to a coworker who recently transferred into my department and he was telling me about his divorce. His wife was cheating on him with a guy from her job, one of her coworkers informed the husband. He filed for divorced, the judge ordered him to pay child support for 2 kids and alimony. So he moves out of the house that he inherited from his parents so the kids would'nt have to be uprooted, the wife does'nt pay the mortgage and the house is lost in foreclosure. In the meantime my coworker lives in a small basement apartment in a crappy neighborhood struggling to make ends meet.

How is this legal? I admit I'm pretty naive about divorce laws but this just does'nt seem right at all. There's another story like this that I read online, basically a rich guy marries a woman, she cheats on him and walks away with more than 20 million of his money. Then he also gets to pay child support for the kids she had in a previous relationship. wtfbbq!! I don't understand the legal system at all.

First mistake was moving out of the house, never move out unless its part of the FINAL agreement or court order.


Most states are no fault. Does not matter if he cheated.

I actually believe he's telling the truth. He did'nt seem angry or upset at all when telling the story, he did'nt even use any harsh adjectives to describe his wife. He just seemed very beatdown by life, I felt bad for him.

When I started my divorce proceedings (ex cheated on me) I was told that I could have to pay alimony if the judge decided that she was unable to support herself on her own income.

Fortunately she had her new deadbeat love interest to support her and now she is his problem.

In my opinion, if you can't support yourself on your own income....get a better job or learn to budget. But she had already met her life's aspiration of serving coffee to people at a bookstore for $8/hr.

The problem is that in most cases the guy can probably support himself on his own income, but when you're entitled to pay for the kids and the wife with half the money (if the wife as working) you were used to paying bills with it gets ugly.

I understand child support...but how does a judge decide if you have to pay alimony? When I decided I didn't make enough money, I went back to school...so why can't she? Is it different per state, or basically if your wife can't live the way she wants, you pay alimony?

In Michigan if you can prove adultery then adulterer gets nothing, except child support but the parent who was not the adulterer usually gets custody.

Assuming your friend's story is completely unbiased, that sounds pretty much normal. Women in divorce/family court basically come in knowing they've won the lottery by virtue of being women.

The lesson for all to learn is not to not get married, it's just be VERY careful about who you marry. Because if you get divorced, you're going to get horribly, unfairly reamed. It's just one of the big perks about being a chick women conveniently forget when they bitch and moan about making less money or not getting that promotion

Judges see a crying woman and give them the keys to YOUR car / house / bank account whatever.

I'm all for EQUALITY, and the court systems in these cases are anything but.

I know a war veteran that lives in the homeless shelter because after alimony he only had about 300-400 dollars a month, he can't live on that, so he just doesn't work, and does day labor on the side.

In NC if you are a man you get r@ped by the judge in divorce court.
