In my (almost) year here, I've seen a lot of crap go down in some pretty intense religious threads...

Here are my findings and "thoughts"

* If you are a Christian who are trying to convert people here, forget it. Don't waste your time. Neither side wants to hear what the other has to say. It always ends up in pointless bickering.

* If you are an Atheist trying to convince a Christian God doesn't exist...etc... see above.

For the most part, Christians are "mostly" interested in talking with those who "are interested" in Christianity. If that's not your motive, it needs to be. Don't be wasting your time with someone who isn't going to listen to you.

That goes for the Atheist too, you know you're not going to convince a Christian that God doesn't exist.. so Why try?

It's one thing to try to convince someone of "something you believe in", but it REALLY kills me that how Atheist go so far to try to convince someone "of something they Don't believe in"! If your answer is "I'm tired of Christians pushing their crap on me!", then you probably repond to them to much. Ignor them. Quit responding... They "will" go away.

If someone trys to tell you something you don't belive in, don't ARGUE with them, IGNOR them! You'll have a lot more friends in the end!

I used to get into BIG TIME Arguments with Atheist (right Shocking Blue! ), but I've learned that solves nothing and only creates hatered between us. Now, I just say "WASSSSSSAP!" and get along with everyone, including SB! Out of all the Atheist that post here, He is by far the most level headed of them all (sometimes.. hehe). I'm sorry we got into such bad scuffles in those days.

I don't have anything against someone with an Atheist opinion and I respect them enough that, that's their opinion. I leave them be with it. An Atheist is NOT an Anti-Christian!

If you are Anti-Christian, stop cliaming to be an Atheist! If you Are an Atheist, then hold to your opinion and I (we'll) respect that and leave it at that.

If you're a Christian, don't be an Anti-Atheist! It's a two-way steet people. Hold your opinion for those who "are intersted" in hearing it.

I think that's this worlds problem.. too many people spend too much effort trying to "push their beliefs" of the other person...

People should treat their beliefs like "books in a book store". You don't walk into a book store and have someone sticking a BOOK IN YOUR FACE.. "READ THIS ONE MAN!"
No, they just sit on a shelf and YOU DECIDE what you want to read.

Peace.

Whitedog,

You make some solid points. Overzealous Christians and Sacrilegious Atheists is like burning oil and water. Apart they serve their purposes, put them together and OH MAN!

BUT laying dorment isn't the answer either. Sometimes good comes of heated battle.

While you shouldn't have those books SHOVED in your face, it wouldn't be so bad KNOWING what's there.

Nice post, whitedog. I couldn't agree more.

I may be a lot of things, but the one thing I can't stand is arguing over things which we all know we will never agree upon. Agree to disagree already, and move on.

People will benefit from hearing different views, but no one can be made to swallow.

LOL Red... You know, makes me think. Most people like to label themsleves as, well something, be it a Christian, an Atheist, a Neo-whatever... but Red Dawn, I think he just labels himself.. Red Dawn. hehe

BTW Red, when was I ever "careful" about anything? hehe. It's not coming to me!

Speaking for the "few" as you've meantioned... you can have a HUGE brush pile... but it only takes "one" match to set the WHOLE DAMN THING on Fire!

Woof

A word for all you "A Word for all you religious thread posters" thread posters...

j/k

I've never started a thread like that, but I like to respond when people ask for opinions or ask questions. That's when they are deciding which book they would like to buy, perhaps. Even if not, it's challenging and helps me grow.

Some do some don't. That is the problem, some people can not ingore something different than themselves. I personally see nothing wrong with a little debate, as some do enjoy talking to other types of believers. As long as those debates don't become "You're going Hell," "Oh yeah, Your god is suck!" stuff, I personally see nothing wrong with them.

Your argument falls apart at the end.

<< You don't walk into a book store and have someone sticking a BOOK IN YOUR FACE.. "READ THIS ONE MAN!" >>
You don't log on to the board and have someone open a thread on your monitor.

<< No, they just sit on a shelf and YOU DECIDE what you want to read. >>
The threads sit on the page and YOU DECIDE which ones to open.

right on kranky. I've never forced anyone to read my threads nor my replys.

Simply post my beliefs and others like to reply, just like I like to reply to theirs.

Whitedog - thank you for your post.

I used to get into these arguments, but now I don't even remember why. I don't have any problems with Christians or people of other religions as long as they don't try to push it into my face, or as long as they don't tell me that I'm completely wrong.

Although I may get replies thrown at me for saying this, I'm gonna say it anyways: I believe that within in religions there isn't just one Truth. Whatever religion you believe in - you're gonna think that this one belief is THE truth. I don't have a problem with that, as long as you can put your belief beside for a second and understand that I may have a different belief and see a different truth. I like having arguments where people give and take a little. But this doesn't happen here. Here a person has a believe in a thread, and by god (oops ) he or she is going to defend it without even looking at it from the opposite side's view.
Don't tell a person that they are completely wrong. It is their belief, and with that tactic you're not gonna get anywhere. The other person is just going to retaliate against you with another argument.
I'm not against religion at all, I'm just against religious people that push their believes on me and cast away my opinion without looking at it. I wish the religious arguments here could be conducted in a more give and take way.

The christians that adamently try to convert us here in this thread may actually get people that don't have the same belief to listen to them more if they would also accept our views. Telling us that we're going to hell because we don't know "the truth" doesn't make us want to listen to you.

Taken out of context... Walking into a bookstore (bookstore being the thread, not forum), and choosing what you want to buy, or read (in other words, not having messages thrown in your face) is referring to the way people try to push their ideas inside of a discussion thread. Probably a bad example I used. Anyway, it's funny to open a thread up to perhaps walk into a discussion, yet find yourself in crossfire with two opposing sides. hehe

I think Red Dawn gave a good example of what I was talking about. Mr Palco being the guy standing on the inside of the store throwing his books at you nailing you on the forehead as soon as you turn the corner down the religious isle.

toolgirl, good points you have, but just remember this though... if you want "Christians" to have an open mind to your views, you have to as well have an open mind towards theirs too.

Because I don't think anyone wants this to get into a religious debate I won't bring up the self contradiction toolgirl gave us when she said there isn't just one truth yet she said those who think there is one truth are wrong. Thereby saying that her truth that there is not only one truth is the truth. But I'm not going to bring that up.

whoops.

Thanks for bringing that up qacwac. Maybe you should have read my thread closer to see what I'm actually saying.

<< I won't bring up the self contradiction toolgirl gave us when she said there isn't just one truth yet she said those who think there is one truth are wrong >>

Did I contradict myself? I said that I believe that there is no such thing as one truth. Then I said that other people think that there is only one truth - whatever religion they believe in. I never said that thinking that your belief is the only truth is wrong, as long as a civilized argument can be had, as long as you acknowledge that it's ok that I believe in something different than you do. I didn't say that I think having only one truth is wrong - I just said it isn't what I believe in.

You're the one contradicting yourself by saying that you're not going to bring something up and then doing just that.

Most people are not happy unless they are raining on someones parade. I have posted a pro-atheist topic on here and have debated for over 2 weeks. However, I don't go looking for trouble on a daily basis. I assume most of the ppl on here are fairly bright...with the exception of that MrPalco person...

Whitedog;

<...Floridians can run 9 bingo cards at once, and never miss a beat, but can't read a simple voting card...>

People constantly come into my business thinking they're entering the business right next door. They don't read the signs. They don't see the signs. With the majority of people living in the county being registered Democrats, you tell me for whom these people thought they were voting.

Welcome to South Floriduh.
