A worthy successor to my Nexus 4?

About 2 years ago I asked here for suggestions on a new cell phone. There were a lot of good suggestions and I went with the Nexus 4 and have mostly been very happy with it.

Now that I'm looking to replace it, I've looked over the Nexus 6 a few times. But, I find the Nexus 6 to be a bit big for my tastes. I don't know if I'd get used to the size after a while or not. I also find the price a good deal more expensive than I'd like to pay. I'm not sure what features make the phone that expensive, or if I'd miss or utilize those features.

So, I started looking at Nexus 5's again. They aren't available at the google play store anymore (inventory was very spotty when I was last looking a few months ago). I have seen them brand new shipping from China for $258 on Ebay. But, I don't know what kind of warranty or support I'd get if I bought one of those.

I figured I'd ask here again. I take pictures, but not a ton. I usually carry my phone with me when I run or ride, but since I bought a Garmin watch, it isn't totally necessary to do that anymore. I do like the stability and lack of bloat on the clean Android O/S. I don't know if other phones would be better or worse than what I was using a few years ago.

Any suggestions?

Which provider are you with (att/tmobile)? What's your budget?

Moto X would be a good choice on the "stability/lack of bloat on clean android" department. $150-$350 new?

LG G2 would be a good choice on the "price to performance/feature ratio" department. It has gone down to $150-$200 new right now

I'm in the same boat. I have a launch Nexus 4 and I was planning to get the Nexus 6 until they released pricing. At the time my Nexus 4 was still a great phone and I wasn't about to pay $750 (CAD) for a Nexus device. The 4 has been showing its age recently and the input lag on typing is getting frustrating. I'm going to try to hold out until 2015's Nexus device is announced. I'm hoping the price point is inline with the Nexus 4/5 devices.

2nd generation Moto G?

Really? How about NO!

Edit://To all the people recommending the MotoX 2013. This is not an upgrade from the Nexus 4! I have both phones I should know. The Moto X at times feels less responsive when doing heavy multitasking.

Are you people just naming phones because you can?

LG G2 for $175 read the entire OP in that thread.

Get it while it's hot and before it sells out, it's still in stock using the 3nd link.

It would still help if we knew this OP's network and budget.

I'm with T-Mobile. I'm frugal, not cheap. So, I'll pay whatever I need to as long as it is worth it. I'd love another phone for around $300, but I was considering the Nexus 6 so $600 is also okay.

What a refreshing comment! Just because one can afford a top of the line phone doesn't mean they represent good value. Caring about value isn't being cheap, it's good sense. I'll be following this thread, I'm in the exact same position.

If you are hooked on the benefits of a Nexus then get another Nexus. Only Nexuses get quick AOSP updates.

Honestly if the Nexus 6 is too big either get the Nexus 5 or do what I am doing and ride that 4 until the next Nexus is released.

The current value king is the G2, but software-wise it is not a Nexus.

I have a Nexus 6 and it's amazing. I got used to the size very quickly coming from a Galaxy Nexus which I had for 3 years. Most other phones look like a baby phone now.

You're other option is to hang on to that nexus 4 and wait for the next Nexus (7-8 months?).

the G2 is 'worth it' more than the Nexus 6. you can get the Nexus 6 if you like but the G2 goes much further for your money. I have so far convinced 3 friends and family to spend their money on it. The third hasn't jumped yet, but will be soon, the other 2 like it very much. I like it too. Just had to use a very-easy-root-method (stumproot apk) to get root in order to disable AT&T and LG bloatwares

I have been very happy with mine but it is a lower end device. With the Nexus 6, the lack of screen brightness is a bigger deal than its size or cost...at least for me.

Whatever you decide, wait until Google I/O to be safe.

Depends on what you value. That is kinda a personal thing.

Personally I have gotten to the point where I care more about the software experience than a pure hardware value. Any phone I have to root to tolerate is a no go.

The Moto X (2014) 64GB Pure Edition was available directly from Motorola this week for $375. Almost jumped on it. But didn't. Price + poor battery + poor camera = felt it was too expensive for last year's tech.
