I would want to believe this, but how could this information escape X-bitLabs, ExtremeTech, and AnandTech? This source is from England? Maybe the 90nm chips are only going to roll out there? You'd think the US would get them first or at the same time because we upgrade the most as a population.

I wouldn't hold your breath for this until or unless you hear it from more reputable sources.

90nm lol, 90nms which are due 2H next year.

RobJ,

They said it's already shipped in Japan. So only so long until we get them. They've been shipping for some weeks.

if its just shrinking down the core it most likely means they can can be clocked higher.

What actually doesn't make sense is why they would release a new core not at new high speeds?

It's done for the same reason that Prescotts were initially rolled out at 2.4GHz to 3.4GHz even though Northwood already covered that spread. CPUs that are cheaper to produce and sold cheaper to the consumer are more important than the expensive high-end because they're sold in higher volume.

don't they create a larger product line that way? i would guess they'll ramp up speeds to new ranges after a few weeks maybe...

What puzzles me is the 05 roadmap of 2.4 and 2.6. People say that 2.6 is as high as 130nm can take us. So if 90m 3500+ is shipping in the coming weeks, not only can we OC higher than 2.6 but we could be seeing FX-59 sooner than ever.

Doesn't 90nm chips come with optimizations in instruction sets and in other things like improved memory controller etc. IIRC, I thought that i read somewhere that it would improve performance by 3-5%.

Finally some affordable 939 chips! the 3000 is $189 according to the post. These early batches are probably not as overclockable though.

Just canceled it. They are crazy, if you cancel your order after 30min from placing it, they may charge a 15% restocking fee (for an order that hasn't even shipped. I thought people liked Monarch, but that's just crazy. I'll wait for NewEgg to get the 90nm up and then order from them.

They charge a restocking fee for a product that they will not even receive for two weeks?

I am pretty sure they would waive the fee in this situation. I would contact the Monarch rep that frequents this forum if you want this fee waived.

Woohoo!! Affordable s939 cpus

EDIT: Would the initial steppings for these 90nm cpus have better potential for OCing or future steppings?

It's always good to let time pass and let the early adopters get the scope on things.

What exactly is AMD's plan now if Socket754 wass suppose to be for the value line with this news? It would seem to me they just killed 754 by releaseing lowed 64s for Socket939.
