right now im at 230 fsb (2.3ghz). I was told by a friend after i bought this board that the overclock on the via chipset sucks at the moment.. so ive been playing with it and this is what ive gotten slowly but surely. Do to my kinda crappy ram ive had to lower my speeds on my ram. My temperatures after playing far cry for 30 min were 110F/44C, wish is decent on a venus12 thermaltake at low fan speed.

So im going to push for another 100 mhz if this board will allow me which i would be very happy with.

Any comments on my motherboard?

seems that im stuck at 235 and wont post even at 236. Do you think any voltage increases would help? And my ram is underclocked so i know thats not the problem

No agp/pci lock is limiting you most likely. At 235 fsb your agp bus is running at 235/3 = 78ish mhz, some cards don't like that. Hard drives don't like higher pci speeds either if I recall.

You could give ClockGen a go but other than that I think you've found your max, which for that board is very good already.

yea im wanting to return it since i didnt do enough research (my fault) before hand. What board would you guys reccomend for a 400-500 mhz overclock range? price is no object... working 7 days a week has its advantages

also, my 9700pro isnt working at all... is there any voltage settings i need to change around? go from one chipset to another i might have to fiddle with some stuff

Your having better luck then me, I can't top 210 or so... any settings I should try? I just can NOT get this thing going faster. I know the CPU, RAM, and everything can take more.... but something doesnt like it.

well i set my ram ratio at 4:3 (266), which allowed me to overclock about 30mhz more on my fsb. So try underclocking your ram and see what that does, and do really conservative timings... u dont need the timings like you used to on the p4 machines

I figured out it was the HT... I turned it down to 600 and it worked much better..... now I just need better ram... I have awsome Mushkin SE PC3200 based on BH-6 chips and it does 210 2-2-2 but this ram doesnt gain much headway with lower timings... even at 3-3-3 it wont hit 220.

You are decreasin bandwidth if all you do is lower it's multi, but if overclocking then lowering the multi, increasing from default 200mhz speed, and boosting the LDT voltage can get you to higher CPU speeds with stability *provided pci/AGP being out of spec on those without locks isn't a hold up* , while getting your HTT/LDT back near default speed. Some boards seem capable of exceeding the default HTT speed well, while others like mine seem to do better if kept near spec by dropping the multi, upping the voltage, and raising the LDT speed.

It's only the AGP that is unlocked. The PCI will always be locked at 33Mhz.

NO, the VIA chipset (non-pro) does not have a AGP or PCI lock

Hmmm... I have nearly the same setup (A64 and K8V) and, if I lower my RAM to 266, I can hit 2400 easily, sittin' around 40 Celsius. Might just be luck of the draw, but I have yet to hit any problems with AGP/PCI lock with latest BIOS revision, my problems have been RAM related... guess I haven't tried it any higher than 2400 though... seemed a fair enough gain to me. Anywho, that's my two cents.

I'm running a 2800+ at 1.98 GHz @ stock voltage. Where do iI go from here? If I lowered the ram what would it do? I have PC-4000? What benefit would this give me? Where would I lower this and what am I changing?

From what I've read (mind you not what I know) A64s don't even receive much if any benefit from PC3200 over PC2700, let alone PC4000. My experience with this has held true, actually. I have one stick of 3200 and 2 sticks of 2700 running at 2700 speeds plus the FSB increase, and it's just $60 512MB generic stuff, works great! With stock cooling, even if it's been run hard, I get 43C with a 300MHz OC at 1.75volts. Of course, as many have mentioned, you may have to worry about PCI/AGP lock eventually being your downfall. Actually, since I posted the above, I've had mine up to 2500MHz from 2000MHz and it still booted fine... wasn't real stable for gaming though. But, realistically, it's all luck of the draw, I may have just gotten lucky, I'm not sure how many others are posting stats like that without PCI/AGP lock, so it may just be coincidence. They say downing your HT speeds can really help, but I haven't had to do that yet, and I'm not sure if it's a big hit to do that or not, but I know I wouldn't wanna turn mine below 800, not for the negligeable, if any, gain I'd get from it. Anyhow, that's my two cents...

guys, i think i have had luck compared to everyone.
this are my settings

Ratio 2:1 DDR 400
HT 800mhz

FSB 226
Cas 2.5

Final speed: 2486
Cpu Temp around 46 (stock hsf)

I will continue overcloking. If i run into trouble i will try changing cas latency to 3 and undercloking HT to 600mhz and/or increasing AGP voltage (some say it helps stabalize video card under somuch pressure)

it is a good board but being limited to 240ish isn't good enough for me

on my epox board with pci and agp lock, i am running a "fsb" of 270 with ram at 230 with the 5/6 divider.

i had to lower my LDT from 4 to 3 but still...

i am going to drop my mult down to 9 or even 8 to see if i can get some better results

I have the Asus KV8 SE Deluxe (not sure what the difference is between the SE and regular version). Nevertheless, I'm at around 2.6Ghz on default voltage right now.

With what chip?

The difference is wifi card and 3com lan you don't have.
