A64 3000+ Temp Question

I left my PC on for 4 hours idleing then rebooted and checked bios. My Venice core CPU was running at 44 degrees. Is that bad? After playing Morrowind for 20 minutes it was up to 48

Anyways it was my budget new gaming pc I opted for after a friend of mine spilt sam adams octoberfest on my old laptop (i decided on a desktop cause I never took advantage of the mobility)

I've added a Samsung DVD-Drive and Windows XP
I have an Asus Extreme x700 pro 256mb PCIe card coming
I've been playing some Morrowind but hope to get Rome:TW Going soon

On another note I'm seeing some numbers in the 50s now for temp but it could be related to the room

Yea in that case(Qpack)your gonna be hard pressed to do much better than the temps your getting. Room temp and case placement play a vital role in your sysytem temps and what you can acheive. The lower the case (floor) the cooler the air it receives. You could play around if you feel up to it and reseat the cpu's HSF and use some AS5. Might bring it down a degree C or 2. Also could purchase a higher cfm exhaust fan for the Q. For that cpu I recommend not going over the 60C mark for better longevity. I think AMD rec's 65C or so. Your temps are on the high side, but plenty safe.

I noticed that even when the temp would be reading very near 60 the heatsink still felt relatively cool. I'm going to stick with the stock HSF but I ordered some AS5 and I'm going to see if I can get a better connection with the cpu and lower the temps a bit. Would that void my AMD warranty? On a side note I noticed that because my MOBO is thick below the CPU it warps a little in the case...
