A64 400+ or Wait for x2 4400+

Hey guys, I've been following this forum for the last month lol. I'm putting together a SFF for the office and I'm having the hardest time deciding between these two processors. On the one hand I know the x2s are the future but they're still not available and damn expensive. On the other I can get a a64 4000+ venice core rev. E for about $475. What would you guys recommend for an office PC. I would be running an SQL server with some Java based business app and some Adobe programs, no gaming at all on this PC. What would the cpu gurus out there recommend??? Any help appreciated.

for an office pc, i wouldnt even get neither.
A 3000+ or a 3200+ would do fine.
Especially if ur not doing video encoding or editing, no need for fast cpus.
For business apps, more ram would be recommended.

I have a temporary 3500+ running right now with 2gigs of crucial ram. I need to use this cpu some place. I don't really want to downgrade to a slower processor though. I've been spoiled. The x2s are tempting the hell out of me though.

I think the 3800 might actually be slower than my 3500 when not multitasking. The two choices for me are the x2 4400+ or 4000+ Venice. If I could just find somebody willing to sell it for about 590 or so. LOL.

I don't know whats wrong with you. I've downclocked my x2 to 1.6 ghz and it still flies in most single threaded programs.

You can pick up an OEM 4200+ for $440 today at MonarchComputer. In fact, I got a OEM 4200+ with a cheap NF4 939-Pin motherboard (pretty basic mobo, but it supports the X2) for no additional cost. MonarchComputer has a few coupon codes out right now; check the deal sites.
