It should *not* run that hot when just idling. Is this after a cold boot?
I have a FX53, too. My BIOS reads about the same as yours after a cold boot, but if I restart my system the temperature reading drops by over 20 degrees celsius. I've hjad my mobo beep like crazy warning me the chip is too hot (ie, the mobo thinks it is running at over 75 deg C), but from what I've read the FX53 will automatically shut down if its built in thermal diode reads over 70 deg C.
As for getting an *accurate* read of what the temperature actually is, I really don't know what to tell you. I've read through various fora and haven't found a good answer other than a Mark I Finger or thermometer or other instrument placed on/near the heat sink or chip. Tomorrow I'm going to call AMD and Abit about the temps and see what I can find out.
