Since the hdd in a PC is the slowest part of the rig, I've been looking for a mobo that maximizes performance. I've seen plenty of reviews that show the DFI UT to be the best OC in terms of cpu/ram but there has been nothing on how it does with hdds. The Abit 754 mobo has the 8237 southbridge which is incredible especially with smaller files like Windows uses so it is tempting me away from the DFI. Has anyone seen any reviews where they showed how the DFI does on the ATTO bench or can someone running a DFI run it and post the results? As a reference, here is a bench of my current set up and the results I'm getting:
http://www.bbpix.com/pix/ATTO C Raptor KT6.jpg
I've chosen the settings you see on the benchmark according to recommendations from some friends so if someone runs ATTO, please use the same settings. Thanks.

Edit: You have to copy the whole link and past it into a browser window since this site doesn't let you link it correctly.

dont bother with using a mobo that has special abilities in speeding up hdd`s cuz u wont find it. buy a raptor and a mobo of ur choice and everything will be fine. and btw: ur links not working.

Actually, I have a raptor and noticed that the hdd connections do make a difference. I had the raptor on an intel 865PE ICH5R and it didn't seem as fast as I was lead to believe. I switched the hdd to a KT6 mobo with the 8237 southbridge and the much higher reads on smaller files made the difference. Now the raptor feels much faster. You have to copy the entire link and paste it into the address bar to see it. Check out the first few tests and you'll see what I mean. The scores on the intel mobo were less than one third the scores you'll see on the bench pic for the first 3-4 tests.

Hundesau,
I have good news and bad news. The good news is your hdd is one of the best around and capable of much better performance than you are seeing. I have 2 of the 7K250 hdd and when I bench them they get into the mid 50,000 for read and rights. The bad news is that its your mobo holding you back. I would upgrade to an Asus mobo that has the 865PE and the ICH5R southbridge like the P4P800 SE. Its less than $100 and I can guarantee you will see a BIG difference. www.storagereview.com has a database that lists the various hdds by different performance tests and the 7K250 series is one of the better drives

ya, thatswhy i bought that hdd. and ur right, i need a new board. got a tight budet though but iam looking for something new, thanks for the advice. do u have the exact link for that storagereview.com overview on hhd/mobo stuff?
Cuz i also build the same hdd in a Abit NF7 and iam really interested in how much performance i prolly loose. and btw, i never thought about this topic, that the hdd interface is a important point when u look for a mobo.

concerning the abit nf7, i will bench the hdd today, but would b nice if u have the link to that storegreview article.

and let us know if u find a review benching the s939 boards and hdd´s with atto.

No problem:
http://www.storagereview.com/comparison.html

At the top of the page is a drop down box that lets you choose the test you want to use for the comparison. The two WB99 transfer tests are my faves.

If you already have an Athlon XP cpu, I strongly suggest the MSI KT6V LSR mobo. It costs just $51 on Newegg and it has the 8237 Southbridge which makes hdds fly. The board is extremely solid and stable too.
