That PSU certainly has the amps, but if you go with an 8800GTX I'd suggest considering an SLI power supply. That way you won't need to run adaptors, and anything capable of SLI should be able to run a single GTX.

Going C2D considering you coming from DDR will be expensive and doubt that money can buy as much boost as 8800xxx. If you running everything at highest resolution and setting, your g-card will be the bottleneck and an upgrade to 8800 will probably double your pleasure quickly and without the extra cost.

Agreed. I didn't realize what type of monitor you were running, and that 8800 will definitely reduce some bottlenecking of your system. As for the PSU, it may be able to handle the power hungry Nvidia, but don't be too shocked if you have some instability issues. If so, take a close look at the PSU.

supreme commander.

I just upgraded from a 4000+ (single core 2.4 ghz) to en E6600 and have noticed a large improvement.

2GB of memory will be immediately helpful. You can always hang out and see how ATI's DX10 card compared to the 8800 and decide on a new card then. The CPU is 3rd down the list because at this time you don't need 2 cores and your system is at a good clock speed. If you want to get a dual core CPU you can always get a x2 in the for sale section.

Plus do remember that DDR is no longer a standard. Every facility has or is revamping to DDR2 production. DDR will no longer be available and most of the good stuff is dried up. You should jump on that when it's around.

If you are going to drive that 30 inch monitor at native res. skip the other upgades and just go with the GTX. Don't go with the GTS as it falls flat on its face at 2500x1600 resolution while the GTX keeps humming along.

I wouldn't invest in any more outdated DDR unless your a Bf2 fan as thats the only game to really like 2 GIGS of memory.

P.S. - your PSU will be fine for the GTX.

I notce a large difference in all games when moving from 1GB to 2GB of memory.

At least all games I play.

Really? Is it a general smoothness thing or an increase in FPS? Or both? What games?

To OP - Nice OC on that 3700!!

It has a better feel. Generally less dropped frames and such. Games like Oblivion, Quake 4, F.E.A.R, Neverwinter Nights 2. Ut2k4 doesn't seem to feel any different to me and we all know battlefield 2, although I do not play it, responds well to memory.

Also MS Flight Sim likes it when I have more memory.

coh likes ram too. even running 1280x1024 i use ~ 1.3GB for the game alone. that and bf2 are the only 2 i currently game so i can't comment on others....

op - 2GB is a must when going tot he resolutions you will be using with a 8800gtx

so another 1GB and a 8800gtx and you will be good to go for some time
