Hello everyone,

I just registered to this forum but I have been reading around it for a long while now

It is time to get a new system and would like the gurus opinions on that.

I am sorry if there is a thread like that I could find it feel free to point me in that direction!

I have settled into getting:

A64 Winchester (90mn) 3000
MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum (939)

And I do not know what is the best ram to get.

I am currently considering OCZ's either Gold Sample Pc 4000 (2 x 256 ) or Platinum EL Pc 3200 (2 x 256 ).

Which ram you think will be best for the pc? I will not o/c it ( or maybe a tad little ) and will run stock speed on all the rest ( except the 9800 Pro that I have running in XT speed ).
Also if you have other RAM to propose for tha A64 System please by all means do!

Also I saw an MSI X800 SE card that is on sale here in the UK for 230£ that seems low for an X800 card, is it any good and better than an 6800 128? or is it sort of GF4MX (crap) sort of thing?

Thank you in advance peeps, alla answers highly appreciated!

Does anyone else know of the MSI card Im saying about in my original post?
Is it fast? I did a search in the net but did not find any reviews for it.

While I agree that unless you are overclocking PC4000 RAM is not worth getting, you might consider future upgrading.

I purchased some Kingston HyperX memory last year for my Althlon 2800, 1.5 gigs worth, which I am upgrading this week. Unfortunately instead of buying the faster speed RAM I got the lower speed cause this MB wouldn't go fast. Now I had to go purchase new ram for this Athlon 64 because my old RAM is to slow. If I would have purchased the faster RAM for a few bucks more I wouldn't need to get new memory

Just a thought.

That MSI board is very nice. I just purchased one myself.

Your right dude,
And the thing is atm that the two memories are not priced any differently, I mean that the difference is only 5£ or something...
But I think that the EL PC3200 is faster than the Non-EL PC4000? or not?
I think I will go for the 4000 tbh, seems a safer deal for future upgrade as you said, with no cost today.

go for the ocz el. spending more for faster memory wont give you more head room in the future. ddr2 will take over then as mainstream, just like it is becoming for intel. until then, pc-3200 will be perfectly fine. anyways, the oc el can oc to pc4000, so dont worry about that either. the ocz el is an excellent overclocker also.
