Looking good...since retailers usually sell a bit lower than MSRP, I'm hoping that 4400+ will hover close to $500.

you would hope right?

most places are selling above MSRP right now.

i think when the price cuts come, the 4400+ will hopefully drop to the old MSRP ($580ish)... but i highly doubt it'll drop to $530ish... though it'd be nice

No, X2 4000+ will come. About 3 weeks after you can buy the X2 3800+.

Do U have any info on this or is it speculation?

It's semi-rumor, from what I've heard/seen. There have been reports (none from AMD) about a 2.0/1mb CPU, probably the 4000+ X2.

There will not be a x2 4000+ anytime soon. And if there is, I would expect it to be closer to the 500 range, maybe 470-480.

A friend of mine works at an e-tailer. Got the info from him.

Thats pretty stupid, IMHO. $100+ for the 512K of cache. I'm thinking like low $400's at the most.

Ok...

However that would still Be a 1Mb/core part. And that means that the price per CPU will still be the same as the Toledo cores = same mfg price = expensive...

Hold your [horses] bro, AMD just released the new pricing today. That means all NEW processors will be priced as such. Seeing as many X2 processors are OOS, when they finally come in, they might reflect the price changes a bit better. As for the in-stock single-cores, I bet there's still a whole bunch of old ones laying around. They aren't subject to the price drops.

toms hardware had an article saying AMD dropped the sempron/amd64 desktop prices as much as 25%.

Anyone else know if this is actually true?

I wouldn't expect one soon though, since it costs AMD more money to make the Toledo cores, and the 4400+ is raking in some good cash...

The only reason AMD even considered a 3800+ was because OEMs complained that the other dual cores were too expensive.
