I installed my asus a7m266 physically in my machine and that worked flawlessly. I installed the os without a hitch. Now whenever i try to install any kind of video driver for my radeon it freezes. The irq is not being shared by anything, and I took agp down to 2x. I'm trying to get 98 running right now. I patched to 4.32 via and got the latest amd agp thingy. I also tried 4.28 when 4.32 didnt work, and i used the amd from the cd, which didnt work. Also when I boot up it lists my ramas pc1600. I'm running at 100mhz fsb right now (Newegg chose not to ship my processor to me, and not to inform me about it either), could that be dropping the memory, or do i have yet another worry? ive tried beta drivers for the radeon, and the latest ones posted. thanks for the help

Did you install the VIA AGP drivers? Do not try this as you only need the AMD AGP drivers and from VIA the IDE/INF drivers from version 4.32. Also, the install order that worked best for me was to install the OS, AMD AGP driver (4.88), VIA 4.32 IDE/INF, DirectX8.0a, Radeon drviers. The latest Radeon drivers require DX8 before installation. Your memory will run at the 100mhz setting since your current CPU has a 100mhz fsb.

It is now working perfectly. I'm getting like an extra 40 or so fps in unreal tournament, I don't know whether its due to the extra bandwith or a clean install but I am kind of fond of it... Wait til i get a 133 fsb cpu someday too.... Take care folks, and have a happy 4th

now that your system is up and running how do you like that mobo? does it seem stable and offer good performance? also, do you have to get the onboard sound and nic? on asus's website it says those two are optional and since i dont need them do i have to get them?

TheParmster,

Update to the 1004 or 1004.a bios if you have not already done so. You will find additional memory tweaks and improved disk performance. Glad you got the board working, it is a very good board.

Before I touched the operating system install, I updated the bios. I'd say, having dealt with 4 motherboard companies in computers I've built, the one to give me the least trouble to install is supermicro, but then comes Asus. We'll see if they can touch supermicro's reliability or kind technical support in the future (not joking), but 12 hours of down time for a motherboard switch (counting sleep) is not too shabby for me. and most of the down time was just do to poor placing of pci cards.
the onboard sound and nic are supposedly optional, i got a board with sound which im not using, and no nic. i prefer the pci cards, since I have them anyways. I'm just ecstatic they included an amr slot though, it's sure to come in handy.

Oh, and just out of curiosity, what would you guys do if you ordered a 32 radeon ddr and recieved a 32 radeon sdr, but didn't notce it for 4 or 5 months? (The driver just says radeon, and i was tired....) What are the odds of getting anything out of the company? Its either pcprogress or spartantech
