I decided to get back into gaming recently and tried out Final Fantasy XI. I have been playing for about a month, and now my computer likes to reset about every 10 minutes. Usually when these errors happen, I get the lovely blue screen and it gives me a LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO error with the nvmcp.sys. Other times the video will get all funky (rendering seems to go to hell) and I alt-tab out and everything is fine. I feel that it is my video card (Asus V8420 Ti4200 128MB), so I ordered a Radeon 9800 Pro to replace it. Upon further research, I find that it could also be my BIOS version (some say version 1004 is better than 1007) or my PSU (400W Raidmax). I have no other card plugged into the mobo other than video, so power should not be an issue. I even tried taking my storage HDD and disconnects my ROM drives to test this out, but the problem persists. I have tried other drivers, as well as different video BIOS versions. I am not sure as to how, changing no settings in my puter, this problem could start unless it is a hardware issue... but with MS Windows running in the background, you never know. System specs for minimal hardware test are:
CPU: XP2400@2250MHZ(180MHz FSB) - Used to run stable @ 2400MHz
Mobo: Asus A7N8X Deluxe ver. 1.xx
RAM: 2x512MB Geil Ultra PC3200
Video: Asus V8420 GF4 Ti4200 128MB
HDD(s): 2xWD360 10,000RPM Raptors
PSU: 400W Raidmax
HSF: SLK-800U w/ TT Smartfan @ 36C
Let me know if require any other information.
