I had the exact same problem with an Abit NF7-S. Looks to me like a problem common to NForce 2 chipset? Mine required me to clear CMOS, remove ATX and 12V power suplly lines, remove power cord and battery. re-install all and power up while holding the "insert" key down. Posted no problem.

When I first started up the MB (on the box, memory, CPU/fan, video card and pwr sw only) it started up to the A7N8X Deluxe Logo (posted ok) I shut it all down, installed all into the case tried it again...nothing..disconected everything..still nothing..took it back out of the case, re-tried starting with bare minumum..still nothing,,fans are on, no red lights by AGP, NO BEEP codes at all!! I shut everything down, un-plugged power, cleared the cmos (with battery out). re-tried..nothing. I have also re-inserted cpu, video card etc... no beeps! No post! Any ideas? I didn't see anywhere that the MB could of shorted in the case, and I was careful not to stress the board during installation. Van on processor rated to AMD XP-2800. Tried different Power supply. Please let me know if you can help.
Thank you!

An update! I tried some of the suggestions that I got here last night. Unfortunately I did too many things at one time to achieve definitive answers! (Note all of this takes place out of the case just sitting on top of the box it came in)I first took out the battery and measured it with a multimeter...it read 3.02 Vdc ..OK, I replaced it anyway. I also put on the original AMD supplied cpu fan. I re-inserted memory. processor, and really rocked the video card well in it's slot. I also put back in the AGP Pro plastic blocking piece. I hooked up headphones to the audio out jack and fired everything up.......Same results...no beeps, no post. I looked over the mb real well, checking all of the jumpers. (and this is what I think the problem must have been!) THE CLR CMOS jumper was in the CLR position!!!! Not the default! I do not think that I made this spectacular blunder, but it is posible! I would like to think that the mb came with it wrong and when I cleared CMOS before I just switched it over and then back to where it was originally without really paying attention to where it was actually supposed to be! I moved the jumper and fired it up...still nothing!
I then took everything off the mb except for the cpu and fan, unplugged powe, took out the battery re-cleared CMOS put it all back and this time when I fired it up I got an audio.....memory failure. I then put memory in and I got a video failure, I then put the video card back in and Voila!!! I was up! I did put the Cooler Master fan back on and it is ok also. I hope that this may help someone else. Thanks to mechBgon and all others for their help and suggestions...I'm sure I will be back with more questions! I'm switching from Win98SE to Win XP also.
