A7N8X Problem

I just put together a system with an AMD 2100+ tbred w/ Volcano 7+, Asus A7N8X (not delux), 2 sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200 and a Gefore4 TI4200. I currently have the processor running at 166x12.5 and it is completely stable running Prime95 all day long.

The problem is when I shut down the computer and restart after a few hours. I get a bios error message that says something like "The computer was not shut down properly and the bios is currently operating in safe mode. Press DEL to enter bios setup and adjust the cpu frequency to the correct value". When this happens I have to enter the bios setup and then save and exit and the computer will reboot. Sometimes it will reboot and load fine on the first try and some times I'll get the same error message 3 or 4 times before it boots properly. The odd aprt is that if I shut down the computer for only a few minutes, I do not get the error message. It only seems to happen when it is left shut off for over a few hours.

Any advice about this problem would be appreciated.

I still can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I replaced the cmos battery after hearing some boards were shipped with a weak battery, but that has not helped. Any advice on the above problem would really be appreciated.

I would RMA the board - I don't put up w/ problems like that...who knows, it could be the PSU or the on/off switch for your case but, most likely it's the board.

Well, I tried a new Antec True power PSU too and that had no affect on the probem......

How about a Bios Update?
And try to raise a little bit the processor VCore. Maybe more 0.2V.

some people have had to replace the cmos battery. it wasn't pumping out enough juice. worth a shot

Thanks, but I already tried replacing the CMOS battery. That didn't help though......

I've also tried a bios update. I'm currently running 1002.003 and I'm going to try 1002 final tonight. My vcore is at 1.75 in the bios and it runs perfectly stable in winxp running prime95 and other apps. The weird part is that it only happens when it's left off for more than a few hours. It's like the cmos data gets corrupted (or so it thinks) when I leave the cpu shut down. In actuallity, all the bios settings are correct when I reboot and get the error. I just need to enter bios setup, save and exit for it to reboot properly.
