A7N8X "Save and Exit" Death Syndrome

After 2 months running, my A7N8X board is dead now upon a "save and exit" in BIOS. I didn't press F10, just use up/down key to select "save and exit". Monitor turned orange lite after that, and never come back to green, exactly same as described in this thread page like a lot of other unfortunate people.

Asus nFORCE2 (thread retitled)

A7N8X Deluxe Bios and Battery

I was using 1002 final. Didn't flash a new BIOS at that paticular time, only load the default BIOS, set to my previous working setting, and "save and exit". CMOS clearing doesn't help at all, cause I have already done trying it 10 times now.

Any help info would be highly appreciated.

Before you pursue RMA, go to a local watch dealer with your CMOS battery and buy a new one. Costs like $2. Replace it and see if that works.

Btw, you should never just "save and exit". You should always "save" then "save and exit" with the A7N8XD

Yes, chiz, I read your instruction before and always followed it. I think I did "save" and "save and exit" on that last time. I am too messed up now, can't remember clearly what happened.

BTW, the battery is a Maxell made by Hitachi, code CR2032 3V.

Some people post similar thread here too.

If it is the battery causing this problem. I suggest everyone change theirs now if they have the same type of battery as mine. Since it already happened to at least three people as far as I know.

This board has been working perfectly with me in the last two month. I read about the battery problem before, but was lazy and think it won't affect me. Now, I was wrong.

I will buy a new battery to test in the morning. Don't know if that gonna help, since this board is already dead now even after clearing CMOS.

In this thread, it seems it revived a dead motherboard, finger crossed.

I replaced the stock one with a SONY 3V battery, no go. Fan starts spinning on boot, but still no video.

Anyone has any idea on flashing the CMOS besides what has stated in the menu by using the jumper?

I believe that holding the insert key when powering the computer on resets CMOS on Award BIOS systems. It works on my Epox system. You might give that a try.

BTW, is what happened on boot up after replacing the battery exactly what was happening prior to replacing the battery? Just curios.

Before, even the fan wan't spining on bootup. Now, after replacing the battery, the fan spins.

There is no beep sound during bootup, so I got no video at all. Press the "DEL" key doesn't help since I didn't get a successful post yet.
