Hi

I just put together a new system using the Asus Nforce2 Mobo, Two sticks of 256 Corsair PC3200 and a 2400 XP+... I figured out the problem with the Corsair Ram and have now gotten it to boot properly by setting the Memory settings manually. I cannot figure out why the CPU is showing up as a 1800.. obviously I need to set the board manually.. what settings should I use for the 2400 CPU?? is it 133 and 15X?? I tried to set it manually to this and it still displays 1800+

Any help appreciated

Sounds like you are running a 100mhz FSB. You should set the FSB to 133mhz in either the bios or on the board via a jumper..whichever applies.

lane42..

Wow .... that is strange though eh? it shows as 3300 under Sandra... Is this a common problem with the board showing incorrect CPU?

Maybe it's a bios problem. I average 2 Hours 29 Minutes a Seti workunit on this machine, that takes a lot of Horsepower to do that.

My 2700+ detects fine on both the asus a7v8x and a7n8x.

Lane42, you probably need a new bios version for the a7v8x.

neddog, like insane3d said are you sure you set the fsb up correctly?

No I am not positive as I am at work.. I will check when I get home..

What and where should it be set.. Just in the bios I think it is the top option under advanced chipset features??? That should be at 133? I dont have to change anything on the board itself do I?

Thanks

i am a we bit "dumb" as it pertains to fsb .....but isn't the 2400 a 266 fsb or are we talking about something other than fsb?

Well I am stumped.. I am looking at the bios now and the top option (CPU External Frequency) says it is at 133.... I am totally baffled is that the right setting or am I missing something?

Does anybody here have this board with the same CPU? I would like to know what the settings are on under (Advanced Chipset).... and if your MB is detecting the chip properly

Bro, the FSB setting is a jumpered setting on the board. near the top if I read the review right. READ THE MANUAL! I can't wait fro my new board.

I hate to say it but I have , (Read the Manual), or at least skimmed through it.. the only JUmper pertaining to FSB that I can see is beside the North Bridge and has two settings, Default 266-333 FSB support or 200 FSB, I have it on the 266/333 one...

Well, I have a different one. My 2400+ showed as a 2600+ now after I unclocked it, and doing 12.5*163 now. Actually, any FSB in the lower 160s with 12.5X shows as 2600+ at post. I am using Asus A7N8X too with BIOS 1001.C. Sandra memory 2450/2350. Wierd? I guess my memory is limiting me, otherwise I could reach higher with this CPU.

Well now after messin with settings in the bios, I cant even boot the stupid thing.. I am getting (system failed memory test).. I was getting that before with the Corsair memory and the answer was to change to old 2100 ram and manually change the memory settings... Now I cant do anything.. I even tried to clear the bious and that dont work either.

You know I didnt want to overclock the sucker.. just run the 2400 at stock speeds, that is why I went to the 24 rather than use a 19.. anyway I am not sure what to do I am ready to smack the thing with a hammer, you would think that you could run it right out of the box at stock speeds

Try pulling the CPU off the socket, put it back on,reset the CMOS and fire it up.

Ya i did that... even put in a 1900 trying to reset it... Nothing seemed to work. I tell ya I am real dissapointed and without a desktop at home now

reseting the bios on the MB seems to have no effect, I am still getting "memory failed system test", or whatever it is.

Did you clear the bios by moving a jumper or removing the battery? Moving the jumper is the better way.

I had done it by removing the battery then shorting the jumper as the manual states. However I have sinced RMA'd the board abd have another, which seems to work
