What do you guys think... Asus A7V or Abit KT7? I've been hearing that the A7V is a better board, but the KT7 is better for overclocking. Comments?

I would go with the Abit (and I did!).
Jumpers and dip switches........ Doesn't use 'um.
When ever you get a bug to try a different speed, voltage, or setting,
you don't have to power down. Also, the VIA KT133 is cooled with a fan.
For trouble shooting, the Abit's Bios settings can't be beat.

Love my A7V. Ok, so I hate plug-n-pray and jumperless(c)(r)(tm), but still a good board.

I'm happy with my KT7. You can't beat the Softmenu3 when it comes to oc'ing.

I am in withdrawal ...but I am waiting for the new MSI Pro 2 for my 650 Duron (unlocked). When I read that Abit's prob is quality control, and you might get a good one, and you might not ...I will wait. Also, from what I see ...if it is a bad one ...25 bucks to do an RMA.
Asus was an option, but I too want to have fun without jumpers.

Took me two trys but my KT7 is sweet! So far pretty stable, but I have not overclocked my Duron 700 yet. That's when Softmenu3 will come in handy to find that magic 1G settingI hope!

If I have to choose either one of them, I think I will go for ASUS. Both are good for o/c, and I think they are both have enough settings for you to o/c. The good thing about ASUS is they have better quality (in general)

Maybe I add MSI K7T Pro2 as contestant?

Abit KT7 of course! I've picked up four, three with raid and one without. Stable, best overclocking board. IMO.

Got to say i love my kt-7, loaded up all my stuff, 4 ide drives, sound card, video card, printer, joystick, scanner and then overclocked my 750 to a gig all on my first try.
Not one problem or hitch, this is awesome working in a bios that is so tweakable.
I was paranoid about abit because i had heard lots of bad things, but i think this is the best board ive ever had.

Dissenting opinion:

I know nothing about the A7V, but I bought a KT7 and have not yet managed to get the thing stable. I have tried every BIOS setting imaginable, and the damn thing still locks up regularly.

Shrug. YMMV.

What kind of drive will your machine be sporting?
Apperntly the controller in the KT7 doesn't like the 75GXP drives, but that's just what I've heard.

I personally like/own the A7V. I found it quiet easy to overclock, and it can be amazingly tweaked if you have the patience for some hit and miss...
Both boards are good.. but the controller in the Kt7 and the quality controller that ABIT has turns me right off..

As if the waiting game isn't hard enough when your waiting to put a system together, but if you have to wait for an RMA? Ew! I like working parts out of the box myself.

I have a KT7 and I'm very impressed with it. My 600 Duron is running stable at 900MHz and Softmenu3 is a nice chance after all those years of fiddling with jumpers.

One feature that led me to choose the Abit over the Asus is that the former has one ISA slot while the latter has none. For me at least, that's an important feature.

I built 4 systems in the past 2 weeks for friends, 2 abit Kt7's no problems, 2 asus K7V, 1 was no problems, another would crash when doing graphic applications, narrowed it down to motherboard. Replaced it with an abit, but still I did have 1 asus with no problems, either is good but I recommend abit.

You can still overclock with the A7V just have to mess with jumpers??? Once I get a chip stable overclocked i dont mess with it anymore so jumpers wouldnt bother me. but can the asus overclock as high as the Abit???
