A7V/Win2k Woes

When I install drivers for my video card, the OS halts on boot-up. I have to go in safe mode, remove the drivers and then I am able to get into the system again.

As many have suggested, I tried to change my BIOS performance setting from "Optimal" to "Normal". However, this setting reverts to Optimal as soon as I exit BIOS setup.

My hardware configuration is:

ATX Case w/ 300w AMD-Approved Power Supply
Asus A7V Motherboard
2 pcs. PC133 CAS2 256Mb SDRAM (Micron Chips)
AMD Thunderbird 800MHz w/ AMD-Approved Fan
Creative Labs 52x CD-ROM
Intel 10/100 PCI NIC
SoundBlaster Live! Platinum
Maxtor 40Gb Hard Drive
Mitsumi 1.44Mb Floppy Drive
Elsa Gladiac MX 32Mb

The software I am using is Windows 2000 Profession, SP1
I have installed the Via 4-in-1 drivers (latest release) as well as the Promise ATA100 drivers (latest release) and BIOS v1.005c
I am attempting to install nVidia Detonator 6.31 drivers.
I have installed no other software or drivers on the system.
I have no other software installed.

Have you tried the Det 5 drivers? Some people have had problems with the Det 6 and the KT133 boards in Win2k.

Yeah, I tried the 5.30 drivers, with the same effect. After pulling the GeForce MX card and replacing it with a Viper V550 (TNT Chipset), the system loads fine. And I put the GeForce MX in a 440GX motherboard, and it too works fine.

Has anyone had problems with the "Optimal"/"Normal" setting in the A7V BIOS not saving, and does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for the replies.
