A7V133 rev. 1.05 won't post with Matrox G450

Dreaded situation. I've just put together a new system with a 1.2Ghz 266FSB T'bird on an A7V133 board + Taisol HSF + Enermax EG651 (550W power supply) + 256MB Crucial 133 CL2 memory + Matrox G540. Powered up the system, all fans working, but no monitor display and no beeps.

How to diagnose? Checked all jumpers and leads; no other periperals connected. I've tried the G450 on my old machine, so it's not that. Tried removing battery and clearing CMOS.

i had the same problem, on a IWILL ka266-r. Turned out the motherboard was bum

check to see if your hsf is seated right. also try re-seating your cpu. that always used to happen to me. it just happend recently, i re-seated cpu and it booted fine.

I just had the problem like that. I turned out the my chip was bad. so if you have checked everthing then check the CPU it might be bad

Just for kicks, can you check the power supply? Computer I built esterday had a buym power supply. Of course, it was generic and not an Enermax, but you might rule that out if you put your old 250 in just to see.

Testing has narrowed the problem down to the G540 in tandem with the A7V133, either an incompatibility between the two or a dodgy motherboard/AGP slot.

Anyone else have a working Matrox G450 DDR with an A7V133?

I have now verified that my Matrox G450 32Mb card is incompatible in some way with the revision 1.05 A7V133.

The card does work on revision 1.04 boards.

Other graphics cards work on the 1.05 board.

Anyone else seen this?

Are you saying that the latest Rev 1.05 motherboard is causing the incompatibility with the G450, or is it the version of the BIOS?

I had the same problem with my GeForce2 MX when I built my machine last week--nearly made my heart stop. Did you install the four-in-one driver that came on the CD? After I did that and reseated the card, everything worked A-ok.

Uh oh. I just spec'd out this combo. Have you seen anywhere on the Asus or Matrox websites verifying this problem?

My G400 doesn't allow the A7V133 to post either, but my old STB 4400 does work. As yet, I have no idea why this should be. Upgrading the A7V133 BIOS to 1004 hasn't made any difference.

OK, does anybody with rev 1.06 have the board working with a Matrox card?

I need maximum 2D quality and I don't think there is much alternative to a Matrox card.

Just a thought.
Put the STB back in and set the AGP setting to 2X, in the BIOS, install matrox, to see if it will boot.

Yeah, also while you've the other card in, try slowing down some of the other AGP timings (I assume the Asus BIOS lets you do that).

I tried setting AGP speed from 4x to 1x and put the Matrox card back in - no joy. The only other AGP related setting that I can find is AGP Drive Strength. I have not changed this (it is set to Manual by default) because it is not obvious how it works. If it's anything like AGP Driving Control, found in other BIOS's, then it changes the signal strength of the AGP bus.

Perhaps as nobody else is posting to this thread the problem is my particular instance of this board and nothing to do with revision 1.05?

Can anyone tell me how to get support from Asus?

Spook, AFAIK there are newer 1.05 revisions of the A7V133 out now. I also heard speculations of an upcoming v1.06.

My vendor has agreed to replace my board with a 1.06 when/if he gets that level in stock. I'm pinning my hopes on that.

Version 1.06 already ? Why so many revisions ? What were wrong with the previous versions ?

No idea. I've never seen anything published which indicates what the changes are with each revision. Hell, it's hard enough finding out what changes in BIOS updates.
I only suspect 1.06 exists because others claim to have it already.
