A7V266-E Locks up on restart???

I got the A7V266-E setup with 2 40 gig Maxtor 54098H8 HD,s on the raid controler
did a fresh install of WinXP pro upgrade and notice the system hangs on restart before and after installing XP updates plus installed the latest VIA 4in1 drivers and still locks up on restart
shuting down is not a problem but installing software that need a system restart is
i think its the promise fastrak ata100/raid conrtoller diver for XP i think ive narrowed it down to that because the first time i setup the board was with 1 HD on the primary ide and dont recall having any problems with the sytem but as soon i connected them to the ata100/raid conrtoller thats when it starts
could it be something else maybe some ones had this problem and fixed it????
ive checked asus web site for new driver but it says for win 98/me/2k nothing for xp??
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I had the A7V133, I believe we share the same RAID controler. I installed Win XP using the Win2k drivers supplyed with my mobo. Every time it boots, an error on "Promise Filter driver" apears folowed by redetection of the Promise Fastrak controller. But wherever driver I supply, WinXP only accept those labeled "Win 2000 Fastrak Controller".
I managed to enter to old ASUS site and download correct driver "promisxp.exe". But had to reistall everything. Don't know is this can help you.

Both the hardrives are set to master and on seperate ide cables when installing xp its gets to installing the hardware drivers and pops up a window with somthing about the driver not being xp certified do you wish to install any so i do cause its the only one ive got funny thing is its the one on the xp cd it installs.
im going to try to install it in xp with the mobo cd and see how that works out

My A7V266-E also locked up on restart EVERYTIME I tried to reboot under Win XP Pro. It was fine shuttng down.

Turns out that setting the Plug & Play OS setting in the bios back to the default NO corrected the problem (I'd give credit the the website I found it on, but I can't remember which one it was).
