A7V8X or A7N8X?

I currently have an AthlonXP 1700, ECS K7S5A, & 2 generic 256 MB PC266 DDR,
& a SBLIVE OEM. I'm thinking of upgrading my motherboard and sound card.
My choice boils down to either A7V8X w/ SBLIVE Audigy or A7N8X, making use
of the built-in sound. I'd like to know your opinion if the built-in sound w/ the
Nforce2 board is decent enough. Is it comparable to an Audigy?

Unless you are REALLY scared of the A7N8X I would go for that.

I am running one now and after the first one took a dump on me, the second has been much better.

I WOULD recommend an Audigy or better for sound. Some people may not be able to tell much difference but I can. The sound quality IS good, but I would rate it between an SB-Live and an Audigy for quality. Yes, it has more features, but I am talking strictly sound purity. I hear some interference there that I do not on my Audigy 2.

The performance is amazing. I am turning 12,350 3Dmarks with a 2400+/1gig XMS3500/Ti4600/synced at 133. When the 2600+ comes next week I'll sync up at 166.

I am getting scores with this board, that I got when I was running 166 FSB on my old KT333.

If all you care about is features, then you might want to consider the KT400. Just a thought.

On the sound if you just play games or CD's on your computer the onboard sound of the nforce2 is more than enough, If you mix music and have really high end speakers it's not

A7N8X! Sounds better than my old Live!, but not as good as my BIL's Audigy 2. The board is rock solid stable and was the easiest 'upgrade' I ever did (actually, everything is new and my son is getting my old one )

i took the plunge w/ the audigy. it does sound better
compared to my previous sblive. i'll just need to get the
a7n8x deluxe when i've got more cash to burn.
