I got the A7V8X for Christmas and wonder how it compares to the A7N8X which everybody seems to be talking about. At quick glance the only difference I see is that the A7N8X has dual NICs.

What other differences are there?

I know they are different chipsets. I was wondering what the differences where. I see the N nforce2 offers dual NICs and the KT400 offers RAID(sata) Are there any other differences? Is there a performance difference?

Ok, I'm kind of confused about the A7V8X. From the Asus website.

RAID (optional)
RAID 0 support by two to three Parallel ATA or Serial ATA connectors. RAID 1 support by two Parallel or Serial ATA connectors.

Does that mean I can have 2 RAID arrays, or that I can only use the IDE RAID controller or the serial ATA controller but not both at the same time?

I've currently got 6 IDE drives. 2 CDs, 4 HDs 2 of which are RAID0. I know that will work fine, but can I then add sata drives? Can I put them in a RAID array if I want and keep my IDE array?

Thanks.

Drop by LegionHardware they did a comparison review very recently between the A7V and the A7N, it should be all that you're looking for

Thanks. Good comparison, but I still wonder about using the SATA and IDE RAI at the same time.

A7NX has SATA RAID.
It has nForce 2 video onboard, aproximating geForce 4 mx
It has onboard sound rivaling Creative SBLive

Sounds like you can add another device without running RAID, ig you get a SATA-to-Parallel converter.

I just got my Asus A7n8x Deluxe. No on board video as the rumor continue to spread I dunno what to say. The onboard sound is extremely good I would say better than that of SBlive, its surround hey I cant tell where the sound is coming from.

Took me a while to get the board set up its not Asus's fault its just the screw in my case slipped and keep rotating in the same area over and over took me two hours to get it out lol.

I ran into trouble when I finished everything and begin windows. The motherboard would go into BSOD and tell me check my HD for virus. Uh oh not a very good impression of the board esp this is the first time I bought Asus. I reintall xp no big deal, i have 2 HD. =).

After I entered windows this thing is so fast and I have been having so much fun I forgot about the damn screw and the BSOD.

Its fast and faster than A7v8x I returned the A7v8x and got this no regrets.

This board has raid? It does... I think uh is it SiliconImage Serial ATA? It says they use that same SiliconImage Chip to provide raid.. I don't care the board is smoking fast.

Yeah, sorry....... my mistake. Thinking too far ahead of myself. nForce2 IGP has NOT been released yet.
That's why the Shuttle SN41G2 with nForce2 graphics has not been released yet.
I am anxiously waiting for that mobo for my wife's desk.

Again yeah. I don't care either. I have two WD 80GB drives (JB series with 8mb cache) and they are not SATA.
And I wouldn't do RAID either because I have read that it adds no benefit to ordinary users.
You have to move large files to benefit from RAID.

On the other hand, you never know what the future will bring.
I can always use an SATA converter to add another device without using RAID.
