A8N Premium - Memtest and Small FFT OK, Large/Blend Fails

I've got an opteron 144 (0546 FPMW) running at about 2.5ghz seemingly stable. Small FFT + 3dmark01 for 24 hours with no problems. Played Half life 2 for hours. Temp never goes above 47c. Running on an A8N-SLI Premium. My memory is some mushkin "value" type ram (though it does have heat spreaders), 2x1gb DDR3200, which seems to be 3-4-4-8 memory. I am currently setting my CPU to 285x9 and my memory is running around 185mhz (it's set to DDR266). HTT is 3x, PCI set at 33mhz.

The weird thing is, although all games and programs seem fine, when I run a large FFT test or blend test in Prime, it fails after a while. I can't really figure that out. I tried increasing the slack on the memory to 4-5-5-9 and setting it to 2T instead of 1t, but it didn't help. It doesn't really make sense to me that this could be a memory setting issue, because it's running below spec (it's DDR 3200 RAM).

Am I missing something here?

I am having the same problem. I am running a opteron 175 at 260 x 10=2600. I cannot get the memory to pass prime either. Windows will boot all the way to 2700. At 2600, nothing crashes, but I cannot get prime to run for that long.

Have you tried running small FFT? My comp runs for over 24 hours with no problem on small FFT, but will fail after a few hours on blend or several hours on large. I'm going to try resetting everything to auto and see if it works at that point, then restart my OCing methodology using blend as the stability gauge, I guess. Seems like everything is ok otherwise.

Before doing this try and run SuperPI 32mb test. If it passes your memory most likely has the correct settings. If it fails fiddle with the settings and voltage of the RAM till you get it stable.


The Prime95 blend test often requires me to increase the voltage to the CPU, on AMD systems the memory controller is on the CPU, thus you have to give it more juice to enable it to pass the test. Use small increments I could pass my small fft test at 1.45v to the cpu core but in order to pass the blend test I needed to use 1.475v - 1.48v . If that doesnt work try adding some volts the ram.

I hadn't considered CPU voltage for some reason. Probably because I initially OC'd only modestly and had it at 1.5, which was more than enough. Now that I'm at 2.55ghz, I think that is likely to help.
