Man I read the whole thread. Now I'm dieing. My eyes are bleeding and I still havent decided what too do. Asus *AH-SUE* as they say at Asus is sending me the NEW SUPER GODLY FAN!!!!
However, some of you think its just as bad as the old one...
I DONT WANNA TAKE OUT MY MB!!!!
My chipset fan sounds like a pulse! ZZZZZZZZZZZ...stop...ZZZZZZZZZZZZ...stop!
Its so annoying that I need to have music on very loud.
Is there any fan I can just bolt on and it will connect directly to the mb without an adapter?
I still havent decided what to do with the old fan once I take it out...smash it on my street with baseball bat? or crush it in bare hands...or light it on fire. I will probably do the bat one.
I have 1 more question...when you say clearence does that mean put a space between the new 4cm fan and the old stock heat sync???
Any pics?:|

I was in the same boat when I started reading all of this. Next question is if your fan is actually stopping. If it is, I'd not turn the machine on until you get the replacement, since that chip is not being cooled.

Have you installed that Danger Den block on your nf4 chip ???

Unfortunately my pump was delayed:disgust:
I have to wait another week. It will be tough with all of these nice shinny parts lying around.

I got the zalman heatsink. Installation was a pain and now my temp is 5 degrees higher than it was with the defective fan. I have the new fan asus sent me... I may just put that in if it gets too hot. I uploaded some pics to this server u can check it out.

I'm just installing a Zalman-47 cooler and I'm not clear on one thing. The chipset currently has a rubbery heat spreader stuck on the green "pcb" around the chip; do I remove this, or keep it?
Thanks

Fisher999, are you happy with the Asus replacement fan? I am going to call today to order one. I have been ignoring this problem for nearly 2 months since I've had my system running. The fan buzzes like no other. So annoying. I have Antec Super Lanboy case with front and rear 120mm fans, and Thermaltake XP-120 CPU heatsink w/Antec 120mm fan on top. They make soooooo little noise. They are drowned out completely by the chipset fan!!! ahhh! I just wanna take it off and run with no fan there at all.

I know Zalman NB47J is recommended many times here as the replacement to noisy chipset fan. However has anyone here used the Zalman NB32J, the bronze looking heatsink thats very similar and same material?
NB32J link
1) Model: ZM-NB32J
2) Dimensions : 37(L) X 37(W) X 32(H) mm
I would prefer to use this as its 15mm lower in height than ZM-NB47J. Same length and width so it should only be a few degrees hotter than ZM-NB47J right? Then i wont have problem with it getting in way of large video card fan/heatsink. Please comment especially people who have this heatsink. I have a 120mm intake case fan at bottom of case and 120mm exhaust fan near CPU and 90mm intake case fan at side panel.

I just bought and installed a Zalman NB47J for my A8N-SLI (non-Deluxe). Installation was relatively simple although it's kinda tedious to get the pushpins of the original fan out and to adjust the nut & bolt of the NB47J to fit exactly where the mounting holes on the motherboard are.
The NB47J almost touches my 7800 GTX (should be the same with all cards based on the reference design but just in case, I'm using the Leadtek Winfast PX7800GTX version) but it nonetheless fits. I have no fan on the NB47J and it's HOT to the touch but that hasn't affected the stability of my machine. I have been gaming on it and running 3DMark05 overnight with it and not had a single crash. I have pretty good airflow in my case though (two 8cm fans that blow almost directly at the heatsink).
Hope this helps anyone who's contemplating the purchase.

My mobo isn't in the case yet so I didn't have to remove it and putting it in will be easy as the case is empty right now
