Powered off the PC and went to bed. All was good.
Turned on the PC in the morning ... same crap as beta drivers no Maxtor on SATA1.

While i was running i did have some nice OC with my 3500+ running at TH&4x Clock x11 240fsb.

So back on 1002.

I have the same problem!!! Went back to 1002 and still couldn't get my maxtor diamond max SATA50 200gb drive w/ 16MB buffer to come back on SATA1. I ended up connecting to ports 3 and 4 and reloading my system. Works ok for now. I thought that port 1 was bad, and have started the RMA process. But, sounds like it could be bios related?? Haven't heard of anybody else having this problem, let me know if you find a solution.

I too experience such a problem. This is a solution to get you drives back. First you need to unhook them for the SATA ports. Next go into Bios and shut off the nv sata controller. reboot, of course it won't boot because you don't have any drives. Then connect the drives again. When the Mobo starts to post again you should see them. You can go back into bios and turn on the nv controller and if your disks are raided then turn raid back on. Reboot and they it should post with them.

I did have my 2 drives set up on the Silicon Imaga controller with allows you to run any bios that you want still OC and be somewhat content, but I've noticed that the nForce controller runs the Sata quite a bit better....the result- I'm left runnin 1002 until this problem is fixed by ASUS.

is there a way we can get a message to the asus bios techs to get them to fix the Maxtor Diamondmax issues? Does the guy/gal who said 'new bios on thursday' a couple of posts up have a contact there? We need to let them know about this!

My problem is kinda minor compared to what you guys have but I'm posting it here just in case somebody has it too. After I flashed to 1003, I started getting a message after POST saying that a 80-conductor cable is not installed in IDE channel 1. IDE channel 1 is the secondary IDE connector isn't it? I have 2 DVD drives on that channel and so far everything's working just fine except for that message during bootup. Oh I can't use the primary DVD drive for ripping files anymore. The light just goes on for almost a minute then nothing happens. Has anyone seen this?

Thanks,

All i want to is to get the memory at around 277@1:1. It seems were all stuck at around 240/245 fsb at 1:1. It HAS to be in the bios, EVERYONE is getting the same overclocks with the TCCD memory. Im sure the next bios thats official will make it so you can overclock untill your memory craps out........and thats the way it should be! Thoughts?

Tripp17: So I see you over here now too

anyway, it doesn't HAVE to be the BIOS, I am sure there are ways to code for performance increase in the BIOS, but it could be just the physical limitation of the motherboard traces, capacitor + mosfet quality, component placement... etc... It is possible that in the future we could see a 250 or 260 1t 1:1 operation, but i highly doubt this board will ever hit super high 1:1 FSB at 1t with a 1gb kit of TCCD.

Think so?? I dont know......maybe your right. It seems to me that at first i couldnt do past 210, then it was 220, now its 245....see what i mean. I have a feeling that the "official" bios release will have this and other problems fixed. Other wise im getting the best overclocking Nforce4 board there is and ill wait till there all out to make my comparison. I have great ram, a better processor and a decent graphic card, i really want my ram at 550 at 1:1 and my processor at 2.8/2.9. Then ill be happy and im almost there.......kinda. Good to see you too by the way

I'm afraid that all those reviews that have said A8N-SLI sucks for overclocking is going to discourage programers' and ASUS' chief of sw team, who'll probably say: "Hey, we better go and work on something else now, since everyone who wanted to o/c bought non-ASUS nF4 board, and A8N-SLI works okay on default" I want the same thing Tripp17 and all of us A8N owners want... but somehow, I agree with JMag, again...

Thanks,

Are you using the nVidia SW IDE drivers?

If you have no devices on the Primary IDE Channel, just disable it in the bios and the warning will stop.

I have 2 hard drives on primary and 2 DVD drives on secondary. IDE 1 is the secondary channel, isn't it? All the drives are recognized in the BIOS and windows. Everything seems fine except that I can't rip my CDs using the master DVD drive though I guess it could be my DVD drive is going bad too but I don't really worry much about it for now.

Well, while I am discouraged that Asus has memory issues with this board, I am somewhat relieved to know that my Hyper-X PC4000 RAM isn't my problem. I was upset when it wouldn't run at DDR500 1:1 at 1T, or DDR500 at 1T at all. I thought I got a crappy set of Hyper-X. I hope Asus fixes this soon. I'm just thankful for such a vocal group of A8N-SLI owners willing to share their experiences with new BIOS'es!

They also reposted 1003 final but with a new date of 1/24/05...maybe they changed something with it. Hmm...gonna flash and see what's up.

I was lookin at another forum and read that 1004 beta 1 still drops the maxtors.....oh well no luck.

No, bios is in English. I'd recommend you all try it. It's MUCH better. I can (and i've said it 3 times ), go as high as 310 with 1:1, 2T (3-4-4-8), and before 1003, and 1004-001, I could only go up to 260 with 2T 1:1. As for the 1T, now I can go to 250 fsb, but system is faster with 290 x 9 (since 300 x 8.5 makes memory to work at 263 MHz or so, so it's not actually 1:1 even though PCprobe, Booster and CPU-Z say it is).

1004.01 found my Maxtor 10 on SATA 1 but not my Maxtor on SATA 2 - vey strange! They're not in a RAID config while this instability continues.

So a little bit better but still some way to go.

Back to 1002 for me...

Update from ASUS Windows utility to 1003 from ftp and had mucho trouble detecting slave IDE drive. Also would no longer boot the RAID0 Stripe on the IDE 0 and 1. After the bios update, I was left with a heater! I re-updated the BIOS to 1003 using the floppy disc technique and had the same issues. I reflashed back to 1002 (original on my board) and everything went back to normal and all is well again. After the 1003 flash, I did go through the entire BIOS to assure settings were good, and rebuilt the RAID, and still could not boot XP on the IDE RAID0

Maybe I'll leave well enough alone.

1003 is a bios which first appeared on foreign (non-US for me) FTP sites first, then showed up on the US site, then went off, then came back a few days later. That to me spells Asus uncertainty on this bios. Sticking with 1002 until Asus figures out what they are doing. Also according to the release notes, the "fixes" for this bios are, imo, minor. They don't mention Maxtor's and NCQ, and other major issues discussed here. "Change copyright year from 2004 to 2005?" Cmon People were yelling and screaming about this one for sure ;~)

How do you tell if NCQ is enabled or not?? I got the same drive and same issues. I shot an email to Asus about this as well as speaking to a tech. He recommended flashing from DOS with /cc in command line with the newest version. That seemed to work and I thought he was on to something until my drive dissapeared AGAIN! Damn Asus. This harddrive issue is killing me. I bought the drive mostly for the cache and NCQ capabilities.
