I'm putting this list up to help new people like me who don't know anything about computers. I got burned by a high quality (read: expensive) PSU on this board, so I hope it doesn't happen to you.
The criteria is as above (obviously basic quality and adequate amperage are important too). It is possible to run the board with other PSUs, but you may encounter stability issues (see link): http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=1494448&enterthread=y
Please try to keep this thread as just a quick-reference list ONLY. Feel free to post comments on the above link.
Please list any other PSUs you find that meet the criteria.
Remeber, computers are a passing fad!
-----------------
THE LIST

CRITERIA: 12v single rail; 24-pin BTX main plug (not 20-pin adapter type).

OCZ Powerstream (420,520W) (I am SO sold on this one)

Antec True550 EPS12V

Scythe 500W Kamariki rev.B

Hoshino Metal: Windy Varius 3 (450,500,550W)

Zippy (400-700W)

I'm using this guy in the system listed in my signature, and so far it's been a rock - not a single issue to report.

It is a 20 pin, as opposed to 24 pin, but that has not caused any problems.

Do you think Antec NeoPower 480W is good? Because thats the one I have but I see it has 2 +12V rails... I am confused about the amperage sum of the two rails so do you think I can SLI with this PSU?

PC Power and Cooling 510 pci-express Deluxe here. Arguably the best psu money can buy (I did say arguably, but that doesn't mean I want to start an argument).

Can anyone confirm if the PC Power and Cooling Deluxe SLI is a single or dual rail Power Supply? I have heard different sides of the story.

This one looks interesting, for European users at least. It doesn't appear to be available yet in the U.S.:

http://www.be-quiet.de/pdf/dat...blackline_englisch.pdf

Both the 500 and 520 Watt models have 28A on the 12V rail and a whopping 50A and 52A respectively on the 5V rail! The housing is titanium coated, which the manufacturer claims provides better shielding against interference. And the cables aren't sleeved but are braided which is a nice touch.

You need to add

Enermax 465's with 33/33/33
Enermax 651's with 36/36/36
PCP&C turbocool 510 and above.

I've been telling people a long time dual 12's is a big negative, and cheap way for PSU makers for good high power. Problem is molex rail is too weak when powering vcards.

Hi,

Yeah after all my research I totally agree. I was wondering though as Alienware list there Turbo Cool 510 as a dual rail PSU. Do you know if it is a single or dual rail PSU?

http://www.alienware.com/Confi...emId=12604&ItemIdList=

From there website for there 7500 SLI system

PCI-Express Ready
Alienware high-performance systems designed with PCI Express, the next-generation standard in graphics and system bus performance, make full use of Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe PCI Express-ready power supplies. Specifically designed to support PCI Express power requirements, these power supply units feature robust 24-pin ATX power mains and dual 12 volt lines. This provides dedicated 12 volt power to critical system components - such as the system processor, graphics processor, and hard drives - to ensure maximum reliability and unshakeable stability.

Peak Power 650W

Continuous Power 510W

DC Output +5V @ 40A
+12V1 @ 18A
+12V2 @ 16A
-5V @ 0.3A
-12V @ 2.0A
+3.3V @ 30A
+5VSB @ 3.0A

Fan Type 30 - 44 CFM ball bearing

Noise 34 - 44 dB

Mean Time Before Failure 100,000 hours

Looks like there is a 12V1 and a 12V2 rail.

Any clarification is greatly appreciated.

That specific Alienware PCP&C 510 SLI is dual rails, but the PCP&C 510 SLI is not dual rail by default. PCP&C allow custom configuration of the PSU's (you can call and have them change almost anything including voltages on it). Most likely Alienware wanted the split 12V rail. But if you check PCP&C's site you will see their 510 SLI/Deluxe is not a split rail PSU (and I have one can confirm). And IMHO split 12 rails sucks for overclocking.

I have Antec Sonata Piano Black with supplied TruePower 380W PSU. So far I haven't ran into any kind of troubles with it. My mobo is ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe, 1GB RAM, 2x6600GT (SLI), 3 Hard drives and DVD. Voltage monitor is giving me 11,712 for +12v, 4,945 (+5V), 3,248 (+3,3V). What do you think, is 11,712 too much below 12V?? But as I said I haven't yet had any stability problems with this configutation!!!

11.7V on the 12v is fine.

The rule of thumb is that a rail should never vary more than 5%. For the 12v rail, that's .6v - you're low by about .3v or, 2.5% - you shouldn't have any trouble.

I'm using a thermaltake silent purepower 560watt with no issues same as this one

560 watt silent purepower

also whats nice about this power supply is that all the wires are sleeved and include sata power cables, and the adapter need to run the mb 20 pin to 24 pin adapter!

I notice alot of people picked up the popular NEC optical 16 x drive.

ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT?

anyone having a problem with their optical drive not working?

I have the sli board from asus and everything is finally up and running but when i try and load a game or some application and i put the cd in the optical drive( I only have one.) it runs for a minute then turns off. I can still move information from the cd to say the DESKTOP or another folder. But, it won't let me open the drive. at first I thought it might be the app that i was installing but tried a few others and it stopped working periodically.

any reason for that?

I am runnign a fairly small psu(350w antec stock 20pin), but everything else works great. 3Dmark05 score of 2786, not bad.

Do you think this might be bios related.(i installed the new bios 1003.)

Do you think this might be driver related.(couldn't find new drivers for my NEC 3500A)

any help would be much appreciated.

I am in the process of putting my new build together. I went with the A8N-SLI, which I will be running dual 6600gt's. Anyone hear of any issues using the Ultra X Connect 500w? Should I be ok with this or abort purchase now?

I am using OCZ ModStream 450 just fine with 2x BFG 6600GT OC and an AMD 64 3200+ Winchester. It is single rail with 26A on the +12V. I like the modular cables feature.
