As Visual said, the 1001 bios can get you up to 1.57 V with bios set tu 1,52 and clockgen set to 1,45 V. While this is good, the beta bios cannot raise me anywhere above 1,45 V, as I experienced before. I flashed back to 1001 and, with a new d/l back to beta. Same result as I had before. Guess I need to wait until the releas another official bios..

Hy boys...
It's true! We can't overvolt up 1.45 with 1002.003 bios..It's a fake...

I'll take that as a confirmation that you have experienced the same as me. Guess we just have to wait until the bios is official, meanwhile ASUS support is silent as the grave....

I tried to rma my board, but the dealer wouldn't take it back either. Guess I'm stuck with it

With bios 1001 PCI clock is locked automatically if you overclock from the bios. If you want to overclock with software like clockgen, first change the HTT frequency to i.e. 201 instead of 200 in the bios, so that the PCI lock gets enabled. Then you're free to experiment with clockgen or ntune or whatever.

With the beta 1002.3 bios, you have the option to force the PCI lock on (33MHz), off (derived from cpu speed) or use the "auto" behaviour of the previous bios.

It turns out I've bought fram a very serious and customer friendly webshop. The MB goes back due to inconsistencies in bios (1001 doesn't detect cpu right, beta bios doesn't detect memory timings right, can't get more than 1,45 V etc). I'm going for the deluxe edition...can only recomend others to try to return it as well.

I assume this "model number" ending with -B is just how the shop which you bought from marks their "bulk" or OEM products. Maybe.

I got my board inna box and with all the manuals & CDs & extras, no "-B" for me

It should be absolutely the same board though, i think there is only one revision for now.

How come 1001 detects my 3200+ right and not yours?

Anyway, I wish you that your new board works fine. Don't recommend me to spend $50 more though, unless you're willing to pay them for me

It doesn't. The 1001 bios overvolts your cpu as well when set to auto. You said it yourself it an earlier post.

Granted, there are issues with the official 1001 version. It seemed to overvolt my Winchester at almost 1.5 volts when voltage was set to "auto", setting it to 1.4 manually worked perfectly though.

You are of course free to do with my recomandations what you like. Anyway, the difference in my country is not 50 USD, only 16 USD, well worth it

Kk, the overvolting isn't really an issue, but I guess it can be used as an excuse for a RMA
Bah, it's like I'm defending the board just because I bought it or something... I need a mental check
And you're right of course, $50 was an overstatement. The difference was $40 when I made my purchase and should be less now. If it was like $16 I'd pick deluxe too.

I don't mean that there was a "B" on the packaging I mean when you open up Asusupdate prog in windows the model number is listed as "A8NSLI-B" on mine hence it won't accept any bios currently out for deluxe because the model numbers don't tally.

Yes, ASUS update shows A8NSLI-B for my non-Deluxe MB. Probably a good thing that it won't accept the BIOS for the Deluxe model, as it would be the wrong BIOS

Here is new bios

1003s_02 bios for ASUS A8N-SLI Non Deluxe

I am running my Athlon 64 3000+ at 9*275.3 2.478ghz 30C chipset 29C, 4*HTT with corsair PC4400 DDR550 memory running at 275.3 FSB, very stable

This bios is much better at overclocking than the others but if you make any changes to bios overclocking wise and save it, it doesn't always keep the correct settings in the bios, it sometimes automatically changes the settings for you to more relaxed timings etc.

If you need to make any changes later in the bios you have to put everything back in again or it defaults to different settings for some unknown reason, don't ask me why, still some bugs in the bios, it is beta after all, also if you are trying to get the memory up to a certain fsb put the max fsb setting in last before you save the bios that seemed to help for some reason, i set my cpu to 1.55v to get it perfectly stable, might be able to put it a bit less, but i can't be bothered messing around too much until they bring out a better bios that lets me put some tighter timings in.

I don't understand why your HTF is 4x at 275Mhz when max level is 1000Mhz...

Then I'd like to know the ram timings, in particular if these are 1T or 2T.

Whit my Geil Ultra-X Pc3200 (TCCD) I have these results:

- 1T 2.5-4-4-7 Vdimm=2.7v Vcore=1.4v HTF=3x --> 250Mhz
- 2T 2.5-4-4-7 // // // --> 265Mhz

Do You have any opinions?

the memory i have is designed specifically to go at 275Mhz and to have 2.5-4-4-8 timings at that speed and 2.75 v, HTF i have always been able to get it 10% over at 220*5 or 275*4, also have a thermalright xp-120, which is very good at keeping it cool, and i have a swiftech copper chipset cooler, so maybe that is why i can do it am not sure, however i recently experienced hard drive corruption and reinstalled putting my system back to default speeds and tightening my memory to 2-2-2-5 at 200Mhz, i don't know what caused the hard drive corrruption, maybe it is a bios issue or maybe you are on the right track with the HTF not being able to go above 1000Mhz, or could be any number of reasons, however i nenver got aany corruption at 220*5 so am pretty sure it is more likely to be the weird problems with the bios, unless anybody could give some more insight, think i will wait for new bios to come out then do some more tests, if nothing comes of new bios, maybe e-mail ASUS and see if they have any ideas?

If the non deluxe was released after the deluxe version, I guess that some flaw in design were corrected at the base and do need BIOS update to fix them. Asus has some problem with design is some of their later board, mainly for the P4, but maybe some flaws are still present with some newer board.

To me, BIOS release is not a good sign for support. I rather have a board that dont need to be patched every month than one that is "supported" by multiple BIOS update...

this is a good review and explains that htt link speed has virtually no impact no matter what speed it is at, so next time i overclock i will put it at 3x so as not to overclock it

Neoseeker

Can hardly see what speeds you got there, but looks impressive
