Hey guys,

Here's my rig:
AMD64 3700+ San Deigo
OCZ PC4000 2gb Gold Gamer XTC DDR Kit @ 250ddr 3-4-3-8
a8n-sli premium bios: 1011
xfx 7800 gt @ 480/1175

I'm having trouble over clocking this motherboard. Everytime I go into the DRAM Config and change the timing mode to manual then set:
Memclock index value: 500Mhz
Cas: 3
Tras: 8
Trcd: 4
Trp: 3
Trc: 12
Trfc: 16
Trwt: 5
Twr: 3

Hyper Transport Frequency: 4x
CnQ: Disabled

Then I got into the jumperFree Config, and my Overclock profile is set to auto! Which was previously at manual settting in the last boot. Then if I change the overclock profile back to manual and up the cpu frequency, I go back to the DRAM Config and I find that my timing are all back to "auto" setting!

I don't understand why this is happening. All I want to do is set my memory to 250ddr and just increase my CPU frequency.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Brian

Is that the beta BIOS 1011 or the official BIOS 1011 that just came out today? I have the same board with beta 1011.5 and mine doesn't reset. But I do know that the board has a "feature" that if your overclock is unsuccessful for some reason it'll revert any overclocking related setting back to the factory default. That is why it keeps reverting to AUTO on you.

Now we just have to figure out which setting is causing it to happen... Have you tried testing your RAM with Memtest86+ for a few hours? If not, do that with your CPU at no overclock or underclocked to isolate the RAM during testing.

What are your voltages set to by the way? You may be undervolting something.

Yup official bios 1011 just came out today. It doesn't set it back to default after reboot the machine and testing. what I mean for example, if I'm in the bios and I change the cpu frequency say 202, then I go into the dram config and change the memclock index value from say 400 to 433, then I go back into the jumperFree config and I look at the overclock profile it goes back to "auto" settings! and my change to the cpu freq which was set at 202 is now at 216 because of the 433ddr freq.

Esentially all what I want to do is keep my memory at 250mhz, and up my cpu frequency. But it looks like something forcing me to go 1:1 with my memory?
This is so weird. Any ideas?

Can anyone give me a high level step by step, how to oc this board using this bios?

I can change my memclock index value to to say 500mhz and by default my oc profile will be set to auto. The auto profile will run at 250x11 and I've ran memtest86+ and prime95 and have had no stability issues. This auto setting will keep my cpu voltage and ddr voltage as "auto"

But if I try to change the cpu freq (manual oc profile) the memory settings all get set back to auto in the bios which usually gives me slower timings and lower memclock mhz

Ok just a quick update:

I set my cpu freq to 255mhz, then I set my memory freq to manual, BUT in the bios it says memclock freq as 200mhz. I left this alone and ran memtest, it says that my ram is set to 255mhz?????? Why does the bios say it was at 200 and memtest says its 255? I think this is the problem here, maybe I'm miss understading something.

The memclock index is what ASUS calls the memory divider. Setting it at 200 means 1:1 with HTT. So if you set 255 on HTT then the memory will at 255 also.

Ok thanks so much for clearing that up! I thought the memclock index was what the memory frequency was running at, so I thought I was actually under runing my pc4000 at 200mhz, rather then 250mhz. Thanks! that's clears up everything for me!
