Hello one of my friends is having a problem with his system and this is the 2nd time that it has happened to him. The first time it happened was on his old computer and he just installed a new HD. With the new system he was able to start it fine but it happened again. He said when you turn the computer on you hear the video card fan spinning then you hear the post beep. Right after the post beep the video card fan slows down and the screen sits on the motherboard manufacturers name and freezes. Here are the system specs.
EVGA Geforce 7800GTX
AMD 64 Athlon 4000+
1GB Corsair Xpert TWINXP1024-3200XL DDR
A8N-SLI Premium
Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823A 250GB Hard Drive
Sorry for some of the names with model numbers.. for some of the hardware thats all he could give me so I had to look it up . After the first time this happened to him he bought a new computer. Everything but the HD so I'm thinkin thats what it is.. He tries 2 different power supplies and got the same problem. Is there anythin he can do to fix this?

is there anyway it could be the hard drive? this happened on 2 different motherboards the old 1 and the new 1 and he already sent the motherboard in and hes getting a new 1 back really soon. He doesn't want this to happen again and hes tryin to fix the problem. What usually causes a problem like this?

I agree. RAM is one of the biggest causes of malfuntions in computers. I doubt it it has anything to do with the motherboard or HD.

i wouldnt be so hasty in saying it was the ram. if it was, the system most likely wouldnt have posted. i would recommend unhooking all cd/dvd roms, hdds, etc and just let the mobo boot fully. if it loads to the missing system disk or whatever, you know that something that you disconnected was the culprit. if it doesnt boot fully, id look at the power supply, heatsink, etc...

He told me today that the last time (first time) he tried it on his new computer he got in fine and was installing fine and it just stopped working and then it started hanging.. is there anyway a HD could cause this? Is this problem common?
