A8N-SLI Premium

right now i have an A8N-SLI deluxe. does anyone know when the a8n-sli premium is coming out and is it worth upgrading to from a deluxe? or should i save my money and just get a DFI later and have two mobos to play with.
i know there isnt too much info out about it yet, but figured i would start the thread to see if anyone new anything else

It's really too early to say. The only info out about it right now is marketing hype from Asus so we'll have to wait and see how it shapes up once it hits the market. It'll also depend on what kind of magic Asus is able to work with BIOS updates for the Deluxe as to whether or not it'll be worth the upgrade. As it stands, the board is rock solid at default speeds with the current batch of BIOS'. What most people are looking for is better overclocking performance. It's not bad as it is now; you can easily get up to a stable approx. 250 MHz FSB at 1T with good RAM and can go much higher at 2T. What people want are higher 1T overclocks. The point I'm trying to make is, if you are not looking for a stellar overclock, there is no reason to upgrade to a premium or a DFI.

LOL! If so Asus just lost a life long customer...

I'm hoping they are able to increase the performance of the Deluxe with the next few BIOS releases. I haven't heard/read what the Premium version has that the Deluxe does not.... I'd be interested to know.

On the a8n -sli- premium you can change the SLI interface from 2 video cards to one in windows. No more long chip to swap around and no case to open.

That's nice. If that's it though, that's not anythign major it's not like you swap video cards enough to worry about a one time flip of a card. I hope it's more than that.

Yeah, that was my impression as well. If you have an SLI system you are probably not going to be switching to a single card very often if at all so I don't see the benefit in this other than the one time initial setup. Now if it were a SLI enable/disable kind of thing w/o a restart now that would be something to talk about. Then you could be running 4 monitors in non SLI mode then quickly switch to SLI for a gaming session.

Edit: I wonder if they will include more PCIe 16x lanes in the Premium to support that Dual Ultra card that has shown up so as to allow two to run in one computer. Now that might be another reason to upgrade. Although a costly one at that.
