A8N5X Issue

To begin, I'll list my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
1GB DDR400 RAM
Asus A8N5X Motherboard (BIOS Revision 0301, I know, quite old)
Seagate 160GB SATA HDD
3Com 3C900B-TPO NIC (For other purposes)
Leadtek nVidia 128MB 6600GT PCIe
Plextor PX-W1610A CDRW
Sony DDU1615 DVDROM
Antec 380W PSU (came with case)

The issue I'm experiencing is that whenever I have an older PATA HDD plugged in (WD 8GB, with jumpers set to single drive), my machine will boot into Windows regularly, but sometimes with the mouse not working. To be more specific, I'm using a fairly cheap OEM Microsoft USB mouse. The strange thing is that other USB devices will still be operational (eg. an external DVDRW I have). Now ever since I had disconnectd the drive, I have not encountered this problem. So, does anyone have any solutions?

Of the top of my head I cant see anything unusual in your setup. The issue might be software related. Try safe mode first with that drive. If you are still experiencing the same issue, try the USB to PS/2 connection and use PS/2. You might also want to copy the 8 GB partition into a partition on the 160 GB hard drive and have a multiple boot setup as the 8GB drive is probably slowing you to a crawl. Also check your device manager while in the OS of the 8GB and compare it to the one that works fine in the 160GB for any conflicts. If you do not want to risk copying the partition, just use it as slave to get the data you need from it and recycle the damn thing.

Is it wireless? Did it come with drivers? Have you found any consistencies as to when it works and when it does not work.
