Okay here is the situation.

I am running RAID 1 on the Silicon Image Controller.

I installed my new Plextor 716 SA SATA DVD RW into the SATA 1 NVIDIA controller.

during boot I could see it recognized inthe BIOS on SATA MASTER 1, I could also see it on the IRQ DEVICE boot screen.

The computer booted to windows and it was recognized and installed. I could see it in the device manager as well.

I re-booted and it was GONE, never to be seen again. This time when computer boots, it is not in BIOS or DEVICE screen. The when windows first trys to boot ( the intial windows screen withthe blue dashed bar) the screen fades to dim and stays there for about 17 minutes. then boots to windows all seems normal except my DVD isnt there.


I tried to plud it in to the Silicon inage controller with my Hard drives, and it recognizes it on the Silicon Image boot, and the recognizes it the device manger, but on reboot, its gone. only difference is the computer doesnt lock up on the inital boot to windows.

Spent some time on phone with ASUS tonite. they had me RE-download the Nvidia unified driver, and it did the same thing it has been doing all along. they said they would escalate to a L2 tech ( who will call me tomorrow) but oddly enoughI dont think they will call back....

any suggestions would be appreciated.

clear the CMOS as per the instructions in the manual and try again. Also you can try to flash to 1003 bios or maybe even the beta 1004 bios currently available on ASUS website. Judging by the number of problems people have with this board (myself included) they needed to do a little more QA before they released this product. Not just Asus, but nVidia as well. Shoddy drivers and BIOS are keeping this machine of mine running very unpredictably.
