Wow. I attempted to install the Yamaha Y-SXG50 v3.12.21 (MIDI software synth driver) in Windows XP. I reboot, and odd crap starts happening! In most cases, when I log in (doesn't matter whether as admin or as normal user account that I use), while everything is still loading, the taskbar will suddenly revert to Win9x-style, and a few seconds later the whole system will suddenly reboot (accompanied by a "spinning down" noise).

If I get lucky, then this doesn't happen, but I get a popup box saying that Windows Explorer has crashed. In fact I have that popup box up right now - don't want to click "close" because then I won't be able to post this thread. I looked at what modules were loaded - they included three files which I think are probably from the Y-SXG50. This is after I tried uninstalling Y-SXG50 in Safe Mode, and it told me that there were some files currently in use that could not be deleted. I think they were the same files as these modules:

"sxgb.dll"
"SXGBSYS.DLL"
and maaaybe "wdmaud.drv"

What should I do? Is there any way I can delete them? If I do, will it solve my problem? I don't even know where they are, since I can't use Explorer to search for them (since explorer is crashed) - luckily I have Firefox which is not IE dependent. >_< Please help!

I personally never heard of those modules, and I don't know what will happen if you delete them. In the case you do want to delete them though, try this approach. Are you able to search for the files in safe mode? if so find them and write down the location, then use an old win 9x boot disk and go to those files and manually remove them. No idea what will happen if you do though, so good luck

while your system is booting up hit F8 and select last last known good configuration, see if that has a system rollback before when all these problems started. if that works then properly then reboot to make sure the same configuration is booted up again. if all is well then i would maybe reinstall what you wanted to install.

Is this the same as "system restore"? Because System Restore is not enabled on my system...

I'm at school now so luckily I can browse the web. I found this - unfortunately I "uninstalled" it already, so I don't know if this will work anymore...

Something else I forgot to mention: Y-SXG50 adds a .CPL to the Control Panel. However I couldn't open the control (got an error), nor could I open the Audio control. Now that I've "uninstalled" it, the Y-SXG50 control is gone but the Audio control is still crashing... anyway I'll try Microsoft's idea (i.e. it is safe to delete it) when I get home... >_< gah this is frustrating!
