Im sure he left his "plan" for the next few years with whomever so apple will be around as is for at least 3 years, they just need to find another "steve" by then.
He did, though are they following it? He was strongly against a smaller tablet. Did he change his mind on that privately or are the rumors of a 7" ipad just false?

I said this a long time before Jobs died, Jobs IS Apple. It will never be the same without him and they will not keep the trend going as Jobs did. Hell, even look at the new Apple commercials that they are airing during the Olympics, Jobs would never have allowed those to go on the air.

Near the end of Jobs' life, Android really started to dominate Apple in terms of market share. I don't think Jobs, nor any of his successors, can really stem the downward trajectory of the Iphone (and most likely Ipad) into the depths of pc versus mac domination. Hell, Apple has already let Google take the lead with developing wearable computers (unless Apple has been secretly developing something to compete with Google's glasses that we're all not aware of).

1. iPhone and iPad are on an upward trajectory. iPad itself has a monopoly on tablets. Android smartphones are a race to the bottom. Apple has only 33% of the marketshare but generates 80% of the revenue.

2. Google has shit with regards to wearable computing. Project Glass is just a webcam duct-taped to glasses frames. Apple has been working on wearable computing since 2006 as a recent pantent approval shows. The Project Glass concept video shown a while back was 100% bullshit as the Google I/O demo proves.

Sorry buy iPhone is NOT on an upward trajectory. You're obviously mistaken.

Proof? Sales slowed last quarter due to anticipation for the iPhone 5. They'll skyrocket again in September. Even then, the iPhone is the #1 and #2 selling individual smartphone and has been for years.

Both the Iphone and Ipad are on a downward trajectory. Sorry, you're wrong. Samsung is outselling Apple BY ITSELF 2 to 1 in smartphones. Android has a bigger market share than Apple. Apple will ALWAYS lose if they're counting on 1 phone a year versus an ungodly number of android phones flooding the market.

As a consumer, i don't give a flying fuck about Apple's profit margins, i don't own stock in the company. I care more about mass adoption (see: Windows versus Mac domination).

Lulz, you just admitted iPhone sales slowed down, plus they had ~80% tablet marketshare a little over a year ago and they've dropped to 68% now.

But it's not happening. Even with 50%+ of the market, Android ecosystem is in a world of shit. Developers are apathetic to the platform because there's no money to be made on it. Paid apps suffer from rampant piracy. What do you expect from an audience who gets three phones for the price of one?

Comparing Android vs iOS to Windows vs MacOS is disingenuous. Never was there a time where Windows was completely fragmented the way Android is. Never was there a time where developers could not make money on a Microsoft platform.

So, mass adoption with regards to Android equates to next to nothing as there is almost zero correlation from device to device, OEM to OEM, and carrier to carrier. Android may have a pretty big marketshare but it's a catastrophic failure with regards to ecosystem and tying all together.

LOL world of shit? Give me a break. Almost all of the software i use on my windows pc is free (free as in opensource, not piracy), except for games. Let me educate your puny apple fanboy mind, not everyone who writes software is doing so for $$$. Also, this 'fragmentation' meme is dumb, i am using a Motorola Triumph, which is on froyo and i can run the same apps that my nexus 7 tablet is using. Which reminds me, when even a known apple troll like MG Siegler praises the nexus 7, you know apple is going to be in a world of hurt in the tablet space soon too. Sorry about your ecosystem being relegated to a very small minority of fanboys stupid enough to overpay for it in the near future though.

Apple missed earnings recently.

They are toast by RIMM hater standards.

And look at all the Apple fanboys show up. Where were you in the late 90s? Can't beleive that Apple could be near death a second time? Bunch of idealistic loosers!

Not everyone who writes software does it for $$$ explains why Android apps are such garbage and always second rate ports of iOS apps. It also explains the dearth of Android games.

Yeah, Xoom, Xoom 2, Galaxy Tab 1, Galaxy Tab 2, Asus Transformer, Kindle Fire, etc. A long line of tablets were are going to topple the iPad and ultimately flopped. Nexus 7 is no different. A few million shitty $200 tablets won't put a dent in iPad's marketshare and if Apple releases a 7.8" iPad it's game over forever. You'd be better off wishing the Microsoft Surface topples the iPad because it has a better shot (if the price is right).

PS, because you're not getting it, MG Siegler is hedging there will be a 7.8" iPad and is trying to earn some goodwill by giving the Nexus 7 a good review so when he compares it to the 7.8" iPad he does not come off as much of a fanboy. It's pretty obvious.

You do realize that android got a later start in the tablet race, right? Apple is losing market share and it's going to go down fast just like what happened with their iphone.

It sure is odd that so many people are picking up android devices if the ecosystem is such 'garbage'. Deep down, you know this is windows dominating mac all over again. Maybe it's because the base OS is infinitely better than your outdated shitty iOS? Or the fact that android phones aren't 'one size fits all' and you can get one that feels like 'your phone'? Your apple fanboy tears are so damn sweet.

And LOL at the purported new design for the iphone 5. I mean, they're actually going to make it LONGER but not wider? Are you shitting me? Even the fanboys over at macrumor's forums are bitching about it. Talk about a total fail.

THIS is NOT an attractive phone:

Look a few posts up. iPad marketshare is up from last year and Android tablets have flatlined. This is even after the "iPad killer" Kindle Fire. You think the Nexus 7 will fare any better?

Also, glad to see you're criticizing a mockup of a phone based on rumors. Shows your desperation level.

Sorry, but that's just one year. Apple used to have 90+% of the market share of the tablets and lost a lot of that market share. The kindle fire served a different market, and it's not a very good tablet (plus it's their own locked version of android that doesn't participate in google's ecosystem). I bet you thought iphone would dominate several years ago too. Too bad, so sad.

As for the mockups, we don't know exactly how they're going to look, but we do know the dimensions are FUCKING RETARDED. Note how you can't don't defend the dimension because no matter how apple changes the color, whether it has one, 4, or no buttons, the placement of the volume rocker, etc. in the final product, it doesn't matter because the dimensions are absolute SHIT and whoever thought of that idea should be shot into the sun.

We do not know the dimensions. They're not published and all you have to go on are "leaked prototypes" which can be anything from hoaxes to Apple decoys. Even *if* those were the dimensions, why not wait until Sept - Oct before critiquing?

Seems like everyone's taking those dimensions as gospel, but in any case, there are several possibilities:

a) They keep the same aspect ratio/size, in which case they're dumb.

b) Those are the actual dimensions, and they're basically batshit retarded

c) They have a come to Jesus moment and decide a larger screensize than 3.5" with NORMAL dimensions is in order. I'm not holding my breath on this one, they seem to be pretty stubborn.

Apple is fine.. for awhile at least. There's a whole PC market to cannibalize yet. Revenue/Profits are another story. The Race to The Bottom has already started in tablets, and it's only a matter of time before it gets real bad in smartphones.

Apple will be fine for a few years on just the momentum they have now but they have to start innovating again. This holding onto to OS features for a year just so they have something for the next release is freaking ridiculous. The elongated screen rumored on the next iPhone is just plain nuts. They said the iPhone 5 was spearheaded by Steve Jobs. Well then they must have changed it up after his passing. I refuse to believe he would let that ugly ass thing, it's even worse with the rumored two tone back. I'm just short of an Apple fanboy but I hate the new design. A 16:9 phone and 4:3 tablet is just ass backwards.

Hmmm, this thread has turned out as full of reasonable well mannered debate as I expected.

That said, those adverts are crap.
