You do realize that android got a later start in the tablet race, right?

This is incorrect. I bought my Android tablet about 3 months before the iPad launch, and that tablet had been on the market for two months or so beforehand.
It launched with Android 1.5 (Cupcake!) and then was upgraded to 1.6 (Donut!) before the iPad launched in March or April of the following year.

Sure, it was only a 5 inch tablet, but at the time, that form factor clearly exceeded phone screens, and it clearly wasn't a phone.

So yeah, the iPad actually launched with 6 months of delay on Android tablets.

I could totally see them buy twitter. They'd make it so it only works on idevices then all the twitter addicts would be forced to buy them if they don't already own any.

Uh, no. The first true Android tablet was the Motorola Xoom. The Chinese junk made with with the cheapest possible hardware, on ancient versions of Android, without Android Market/Play access, do not count.

Android 3.x was designed for tablets, blessed by Google for tablets, and granted access to the Play Store as an official device. Thats where the timer starts.

  1. Those ads are unbelievably horrid. Hard to believe it's apple
  2. Aapl seems at a pinnacle, but could have a long ride down
  3. Innovation seems slow in apple products. wildly innovative when they launch, then seem to stagnate with minimal version changes
  4. all the innovation seems to be on the android side. 5 years out looks ugly at the current trend
  5. if that is the iphone5, I'm shorting apple stock now

Ancient versions of Android? They were cutting edge at the time.
It wasn't Chinese, but made by the brand, that currently is the second largest seller of Android tablets in Europe.

Excepting the resistive touchscreen (which I personally like, way less accidental input), it was equipped with (then) state of the art hardware:
TI 800Mhz 65nm Cortex A8 cpu, 256MB of RAM, 3D acceleration sufficient to play quake 3, 32GB of flash, integrated GPS, support for parts of the 802.11n specification in the WiFi coded, BT 2.0....and all this in 2009.

And that's before I tell you that it could play back HD-video in 1080p via a separate HDMI dongle. And that there was a version released with a 500GB hard drive.

Sure, it had its faults (market had to be installed separately), but it was the concept of the iPad (let's make the iPhone big!) 6 months before that came on the market. At a third of the price.

That the Xoom only came out 18 months later is Google's fault, for not cooperating better with the avant-garde of Android tablets.
But an Android tablet is an Android tablet, and at least the original Galaxy Tab had probably more impact than the Xoom. The Xoom as Honeycomb launch platform was Google finally catching up, but I've not had problems with either my Archos or the Galaxy Tab, due to them using 1.6 or 2.0 Android.

When you are scraping for innovations like "fancy metal back" for the casing, you are in trouble.

Android has the benefit that companies can throw crap on a wall and a few things will be huge like the Galaxy S3.

Some day Apple will throw crap on the wall and it will just be crap.

S3 is just a bunch of poorly implemented features stolen from iOS. Their Siri and Airplay clones are a joke compared to the real deal.

I've seen Siri in action myself. It's not like the commercials either.

Don't know what Airplay is. I don't care either that means.

Yeah all 200 people on Jelly Bean are happy.

Considering how quickly the Nexus 7 is selling, the number of people who have the galaxy nexus that got the JB upgrade, the number of devices getting the JB update soon, and also all the ROMs available for JB, you sound quite butthurt.

Have fun with you frankenphone iphone 5 and terrible SIRI voice search though :awe:

I think with the iphone 5, if the schematics are legit, they've hit that 'crap on the wall'. I think the iphone 4(s) was on that precarious edge, quite a lot of people were grumbling about the small screen and now Apple's solution to appease them is just a disaster.

Works great for me. Guess you like hotspacho.

Nexus 7 is mediocre. I have one at work. Horrible display, still stutters and lags despite "Project Butter", no proper tablet software, feels cheap. My now ancient iPad 1 runs circles around it.

If Google sells 5M of them this year it will be a wild success for them (Apple sold 17M iPads last quarter).

Oh, and if you want to see an ugly phone look no closer than the S3:

Samsung needs to stick to designing refrigerators.

That's weird, i have an N7 and it doesn't lag, the display is great and runs apps great.

Funny how Samsung is dominating Apple by themselves. WHY ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE BUYING AN UGLY PHONE? See ZTE's marketshare? That's going to be Apple in a few years, deal with it

Pfft. 26M iPhones sold last quarter. Not bad for a phone at the end of its lifecycle. Only ~10M Galaxy S3s were sold in the same time frame.

The reason Samsung has high total smartphone sales is because the majority of their phones are cheap freebees and BOGOs. It's a race to the bottom.

Oh, and Android fanboys complain about Apple when they dominate markets but it's ok for Samsung to monopolize the Android market. What hypocrisy.

LOL, last quarter? Samsung sold FIFTY MILLION SMARTPHONES in Q2 (and that's only 1 month of the SGS3, you forgot to mention that part):

And you're comparing apples and oranges when it comes to 'monopolizing' markets. A 3rd party device maker can't make a phone with iOS on it, but anyone can make an Android device.

10m S3s were sold in 1 month. Since it was only released at the end of May (29th), therefore you have 1 month (29th May - 30th June) of S3 sales.

I think he's got a point. Samsung makes really crappy low quality electronics and their stuff would never make it into any Apple products.

When's Samsung open-sourcing all the software on the Galaxy phones so other Android vendors can use it?
