btw, the first pictures in the OP's link were taken in Bodie. My family managed to lock three sets of keys in the car there. (I was 14 at the time, and thus the only one not to take blame for that incident)

Walked into an abandoned hotel one halloween night back in 88 by myself. Didnt get past the basement floor after I saw a lonely dirty mattress on the ground. It was dark, damp, ultra quiet and eerie. I just knew someone was going to charge me with a knife and start stabbing me, so I decided to make a hasty exit.

That place is a residential condo bldng now. Opened in 1930 it sits all by itself in a local park. One lady commited suicide by jumping from a window several decades ago. Heres a thread about it, the pictures are towards the bottom.

Reminds me of this awesome building in my neighborhood. The funny thing is that it's this giant old decrepit factory in what has become the hottest most expensive areas to rent. Trump just built a luxury highrise a block away from this.

When I was a kid (early 60's), my parents had friends in either Akron or Dayton, Ohio. Not far from where they lived was an old abandoned amusement park. Their son & I used to get in a ton of trouble for playing there...but that never stopped us from going. It was fucking cool as hell.

I've been involved in quite a few demolition projects of old buildings and such over the years. I loved exploring them before we tore them down.

I have a facisination with abandoned buildings and theme parks. I was browsing around a year or two ago and came across this site. The absolutely ginormous, 163 acre remains of Bethlehem Steel, (ADD kiddies start @ ~ 2:10pm), just 40 minutes north of me, are really hard to comprehend if you haven't driven past them in person.

You can't really feel their post-apocalyptic impact from the air.

Few things left on the face of this earth can compare.

Even just seeing pictures the whole thing seemed so eerie.. To think something like that is completely uninhabited..

That said, I think COD4 did an awesome job creating a level there. It was so surreal.

I went to Centralia, the abandoned mine town Silent Hill is based, back in October. Too lazy to link to the pics I took, not much left but a cool abandoned highway. Bethlehem Steel sells offroading permits every year but I always forget to try to get one.

edit: Especially underground exploration, not necessarily urban. Caves, grottos, stuff like that.
